Default Model 41 ser # placement?

EDIT: Thank you for the two replies correcting what I miss read in the Standard Catalog…. Was so happy to get the book to dig deeper into my small pile of Smiths that I was not paying enough attention.

After adding several Smith & Wesson’s to my shooting storage area.. they are not safe queens, I shot them! I finally broke down and purchased the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson to find out some details about the ones in my possession. Great book by the way! But looking for some information about my 41, it says in 1961 they moved the serial # from the right side to the left at approx serial # 27500…. Hmmm.. mine is 47xxx. Any thoughts on this please?

And I did not use the term collection, because I don’t collect them, I shoot them! 😀

They moved the model number location, not the serial number.

The model 41’s serial number has been on the left side above the trigger since the first one came off the assembly line in 1957. I would guess that the 47k serial numbers are from 1964 or early 1965.

I’m not sure what else you are asking?
