Default What sights will fit my SW99?

I am hoping to find someone with some knowledge of the Walther P99/S&W SW99 pistols.

Here’s the background. Century Arms just brought in some SW99 9mm pistols in excellent condition. I aggressively sought the lowest price and got one delivered for under $400. It is beautiful – I doubt it was ever issued. The problem is that it came without a rear sight. There is just an empty dovetail in the rear and the little sight plunger and spring that go under it are missing. I got a great price, but I didn’t read the small print. All used gun sales are final and the wholesaler has not responded to my requests to exchange it for another. I’ve become resolved to just keeping it and putting some night sights on it.

I have been trying to research SW99 sights and I have become very confused. Does anyone know the answers to the following questions:

1. Are SW99 sights and P99 sights interchangeable? Are PPQ sights also interchangeable? I see some sights advertised as fitting both SW99 and P99 and others as fitting both the P99 and the PPQ. Are first and second-generation P99 sights different?

2. Do I need to buy a new rear sight plunger assembly, if I am putting after-market fixed sights on my SW99?

3. My hope is that I can just buy some TruGlow P99/PPQ night sights on Amazon for $67 and take them to a local gunsmith without having to also buy a rear sight plunger and spring from Walther. Should this work? Do I need a “clamping sleeve”? And, if so, will I need to buy this separately?

Hopefully somebody on the forum knows these things, so I can profit from their wisdom and not have to earn my own.

Thanks in advance.

Trijicon P99/SW99 night sights utilize the factory plunger and spring. I am fairly certain that Meprolight/TruGlow sights do the same. Since you are missing the sight assembly you would also need a windage screw.

Walther may send you these parts for free but tell them you're dealing with a P99, not a S&W product. Walther part numbers below.

2627736 Rear sight windage screw
2627795 Rear sight plunger assembly
(2441225 Spring for rear sight plunger / 2627744 Rear sight plunger)

PM sent.

I just successfully installed a set of Dawson Precision fixed fiber optic sights on my SW99 40mm Compact. You do not have to have the plunger or adjustment screw as these are fixed sights and need neither.

Here's the part number: 110-052 and it's called Sight/Wather/SetFix/PPQ, Ppp* 210Tx.125N Charger Rear/Opt. 180Tx.100 Front. The cost was $88.00.

I may be looking for a set of tritium sights for either my full sized 9mm Magnum Research "P99" or my full-size SW99 .40; although as I don't carry either the stock sights are just fine.

You might call Dawson at (866) 300 1911 and speak to customer service; I had a question about the set I bought and they got back to me in less than a day and were very helpful.

FYI: the plunger and screw are only necessary if you want/have screw adjustable rear sight. If you want plain old drift adjustable, then neither part is necessary. The plunger locks in the adjustable screw in the sight body so the sight screw has something to anchor it so it turns. It has nothing to do with the gun's firing function.
There are a number of videos on YouTube about installing the rear sight; I'd suggest you google them and take a look before purchasing. (I dumped those web sites or I'da listed them here.)

And smart choice on your purchase...with three of them I clearly like the platform....and if I could find a .45 at a "good" price, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

jsbethel and Redcoat3340, thanks so much for this very useful information. The Dawson Precision sights look good. I think I might just put on one of their fixed sights and not have to hassle with getting a plunger assembly and sight screw.

Thanks again and have a great weekend.

I remember seeing those. The missing rear sight made no sense at all.
