Default Alaska DPS 4006

What do we know about Alaska Dept of Public Service 4006 recently sold on GB? It appears to be unique in that it has the spring loaded Decock Only "safety" that returns to the fire position and it has extra serrations on front end of slide and matched numbered frame, slide, and barrel.
Claimed to be commemorative, but has markings that look more like a service issued pistol.
Anyone know history, number made, etc. When purchased (1998?), when taken out of service?

I don't know about it being a commemorative . Every LEO firearm I've seen or own has the numbers on the frame , slide and barrel like that one does .As far as the spring loaded safety/decocker , that might have been a personal want or the Alaskan DPS might have specified that on their bid . Got to wonder why it wasn't a TSW model .

I was tempted but with the word, Commemorative, I passed. Looks nice at least!

If it was a commemorative it would be marked somewhere on the gun and the box. If it was a commemorative it would not be an issued and carried gun. Your gun has all the standard markings of the trooper’s issued handgun.

Actually I did not buy that one, but I have its sister. Agree it looks more like a service weapon. Was told that they were offered to State Troopers for purchase when they came out (1998?). Obviously a specified configuration pistol based on additional features.

It appears that there were at least 5xx issued based on the DPS numbers, but many were not carried or at least not very long - due to weight many of officers preferred Glocks.

Ummmm…
The 4006 always had the stepped frame. This never changed until the 4006TSW.

I’ve never seen any base 4006 without the stepped frame.
The Model 411 had a non-stepped frame, but that was alloy and not a 4006.

4006 first production was officially 1990 (Books say 1990-1999) but based on previous experience, there could have been some early production in late 1989 and most likely there were Contract Orders after 1999.

I was thinking along the lines of 1006 4506.. It did not occur that 4006 would be different...
