Hi,

Should I buy model 46 ? Is it worth to pay for it 5 times less then the price of brend new mod 41 ?

I asked the owner he said:
It has a 7 inch barrel.
The gun has been test fired. It works perfectly mechanically. Shoot 60-70 shots quickly with different types of ammo. No issues with ejection or charging. The precision is good too.
Apart from the plastic stock plates, it is almost identical to the mod 41. The gun is in very good condition.






I'm thinking also about ruger mk4
There is no Colt MT over here, unfortunetly. Have to buy .22 gun before my gun permit expire.
I use club range only twice a month soo there is no point spending a lot of money on mode 41. But I want to buy something solid, without problems, reliable and not expensive.



Price of a new Ruger mk4 is half of the price of sw mod 41.

Maybe Browning buckmark field ?
I really cant decide and don't want to make mistake, im not expirienced.
Looking for someone who can recommend me please .

The MK4 is the best choice in Ruger, better than MK 1,2,or 3.

Personally, I would take the S&W M46. Both will shoot fine.

Never pass on a 46.

By the time you upgrade a Mk4 Ruger with volquartson goodies you might be surprised how much you’ll have in it. I fired a buds Mk? with a volquartson trigger that he installed and it was the best pistol trigger I’ve ever shot, as good as my Winchester Model 52 Pre A .22 target rifle. Part of the equation is are you going to become a competitive shooter or just a range plinker. If you don’t think you’ll ever want to compete then the ruger or browning will suffice. If you want to be a competitive shooter then the better gun would be worth the investment. Good luck with whatever you buy.

M46 this is 7" bbl lenght, might be too long for me I'm affraid, 5,5" are more common and more desirable i guess

Mk4 would you buy steel or aluminium frame ? They sell it both versions those days, I think aluminium is a **** and its better to buy stainless steel ?

The Model 46 is way rarer than the Model 41 and would be a better investment for the future.

The Mk4 is an excellent choice for accuracy and reliability - also ease of cleaning. If you are not into collecting, it's an outstanding shooter.

I have a M46 that I bought and competed with for many years, very accurate and a great shooter. I bought a new MKIV 2 years ago, mounted a red dot on it hand just love shooting it. The absolute best of the plinkers.

I got Glock 19 9mm 😃👍 looking for something more precise in 22 for local competition and fun shooting from time to time. Most of 22 are like aluminium toys. Ruger looks little bit funny.

Althought i'm considering buying ruger (bcs u recommend) with suppresor so i can go into the woods sometimes, maybe shoot a squirrel

Tresbien, a few thoughts:
As noted above, the S&W 46 is a good pistol and nearly equal to the 41. Finding a 5" or 5.5" bull bbl may be difficult. You could buy a 41 slide and use any 41 or aftermarket bbl with it. This would save your 46 bbl and slide (which is weaker than the 41 slide). A 41 slide would be best if an older one to allow the safety to work. The 46 bbl you pictured has the somewhat scarce underbarrel weight and is desirable to collectors. Your 46 slide would work with 41 bbls, but is not recommended and is cosmetically UGLY. The 46 frame will also take any of the 41 grips - S&W and aftermarket. ENJOY!!!!

Mine is stainless as aluminum was not available when I got it. A .22 might do fine with an aluminum frame. I would have to give one a try before making a recommendation.

Buy the 46, sell it to a collector for big profit, buy stainless Ruger and lots of ammo and suppressor. Go shootin.

Have you seen videos on how the Ruger Mark IV field strips? VERY simple and a huge improvement over previous models. I'm not sure how disassembly-friendly the other ones you've mentioned are but that might be an important consideration. Its a current production gun and covered by warranty. Both factory and aftermarket parts are readily available.

I have heard of but do not think that I have ever seen an S&W Model 46. Thank you for posting.

I don't have the 41 or 46, so I cannot speak for them.
I do have a Ruger Mark I & II as well as a Browning Buckmark. The Buckmark is much smoother than the Rugers.
I was at the range with the Buckmark. The guy next to me was shooting a Ruger. I let him shoot a round with my Buckmark and almost didn't get it back.

As far as I know a M46 is just a Plain Jane version of the M41. If you can get it for $300 (about 1/5 the cost of a new M41) GRAB IT! Especially if it functions well with all types of ammo tried - that's a bonus right there!

For what it’s worth on the Ruger and Buckmark:
we had Ruger Mk4’s in the past as club guns and got rid of them because they were unreliable as a club gun. It is somewhat of a standing joke at our club to wish anyone with a Roger “good luck” before they shoot in a comp’ because we continue to see so many DNF’s with them.

At my previous club the club records showed that the Browning Buckmark (in various formats) was THE most popular .22 gun amongst members of the club......

I don’t know anything about the S&W M46 but I absolutely love my M41.

Another very reliable and accurate .22 that you might like to look at is the Beretta 87 Target. I have one and I am amazed at its reliability and accuracy.





My only gripe with it is the length of the grip, with the magazine actually making up a part of the length of the grip. I have somewhat larger hands (the S&W M41 is perfect for my grip) and the Beretta 87 grip is perfectly functional and adequately comfortable but for me is just that little bit too short for me to be entirely happy with it.
