I'm wondering what anyone would suggest for a S&W .45 magazine w/orange follower that consistantly exhibits a tendancy to fail in feeding the 5th or 6th round in a model 4506 no-dash pistol. Should I replace the spring, follower, both, buy a new mag. w/ black follower and is there any reason to keep the old "original" magazine in order to keep the deal "real" if I (God forbid!) ever sell this most treasured of all guns?
(!?!!)

To ask the obvious, have you tried taking the magazine apart and cleaning all the parts with something like CRC silicone?

There were two upgrades to the 4500 series mags after the orange follower. These were mainly to hold the top round back as one was being chambered. The new followers are all black and replace both orange and yellow older ones. I'd probably replace both the spring and follower, they run about $10.

On my two 4506 magazines, I replaced the orange followers with the black ones and replaced the springs with Wolfe springs about 2 years ago. Having other problems with the gun, but the mags are now just fine.

Yes, I have taken the magazine apart and cleaned it. I just quit using it as I do have 4 newer ones. I guess I'll go ahead and order the black follower and a new spring. THANX!

Just so everyone knows I'm "on the level" I DID go ahead and order all that mag stuff as well as another factory-fresh .45 mag. OH! And 2x the recoil spring set because I can't stop shooting this AWESOME 45!
