I don't NEED another S&W, but you know how these things go...

Anyway, I was stopping in at a local pawn shop for grins and I saw a 1076 for sale.

Here's the skinny:

Checkered front grip
"FBI" Palm-swell grips
"Will Fire with Magazine Removed" markings
"A.H.P.D. 21" stamped on the underside of the dustcover
Dead factory nightsights
No decocker recall fix
Five magazines and a case
"TFS3xxx" serial number

Condition is "Fair" right now, with a good cleaning and some love, maybe "Good", but nothing special. Sharp bore, no scratches, a few shiny spots on a generally dull finish. Not "abused", but I would say pretty well "used".

$575 plus tax.

I don't really NEED it, but another 1076 is always nice, since I am a 10mm devotee. A cop gun maybe? Doubt FBI with the markings.

Thoughts from the brain trust?

Well, if the consensus is that it's a good deal, I'll go get it tomorrow.

Naw, that's a horrible deal but I'm willing to investigate further on your behalf. E-mail me the Pawn Shop address and I'll go check it out.

1076 Shooter:
With a little clicking around on the internet I located an Atlantic Highlands (New Jersey) Police Department. You may check with them to see if they ever carried the 1076. From what I have seen in the past the FBI 1076 modesl had an FBI prefix on the serial number (like FBI-1234).

Post some photos after you get the new baby home.

Mark

None of the FBI 1076's had such a prefix, all were the standard letters of the 10 series starting with TENXXXX as far as I know. ( my FBI 1076 is of the regular series)

Yes, there was a decocker recall and some were fixed. I just received one of mine back from the S&W factory, recall done, A++ to S&W. Took less than 10 calendar days to get it back to me from the day I shipped it.

Got pics or an address on that pawn shop, to my e-mail addy?

Well I got it. Turned out to be a little better deal than it first looked like. Tore it down in the shop and it was spotless inside. Really well taken care of, and probably indicative of a cop gun in an oddball caliber, it appeared to be carried a lot and shot very little.

Night sights are dead. Meh.

The gun came with SIX magazines, three Accu-Guide and three "normal". Five have the white followers, one has yellow.

Gun has the palm-swell "FBI" grips and it came with a spare palm-swell grip in excellent shape.

A.H.P.D. #21 engraved on the bottom of the dustcover, and "Caution will fire with magazine removed" warning. Slide doesn't even have the mag safety hardware holes, so it was made like that from the get-go, not a factory-modified "normal" unit.

True, it doesn't have the two decocker dots, but I read here that some 1076s made after a certain date had the fix from the get-go and there were no dots on them? In any event, I might still send it to S&W.

When I shake it there is a WEE bit of rattle since there is some BARELY perceptible slide/frame play, which I don't recall in my other 1076. Not TOO worried about it.

$590 OTD.

Pics tonight when I get to a digital camera.

I would call them first.. they will tell you if it needs the fix over the phone.. just give them the serial number. Unless there is another reason that you wish to send it back to the shop.
