With our newest elected official, the current economic climate, and weird things that happen in the woods (tweekers). My wife and I have decided to get a pistol for HD and when I am fishing in the woods. I have narrowed it down to the above choices and would like the thoughts of this forum.

Each of these pistols would be in 9mm and we would attend a training class. some comments I have heard are about grip size, we both have large hands so I don't expect that to be an issue. We also have a range near by so we should be able to get very comfortable with which ever gun we purchase. I like the looks of the 5906 the best I just can't find any around at a good price. I have a 5906, recently purchased used. It is a little heavy, but a nice pistol. Recoil is minimal, and I've had no issues so far. It looks great, but that was low on my list. It fits me well, Is accurate and so far hasn't FTF, FTE.

I also have a Sig 226 in .40S&W nice pistol as well but not what you're looking for.

You might also want to look at a Beretta 92FS a very nice handling pistol as well. Very reliable also.

For home defense nothing beats the good old 12 gauge. But I would not hesitate to carry the 5906.

5906,not bad but didn't fit my hand well..Felt like a piece of 2x4..Know nothing about the Sig..
The CZ75b is a great feeling and shooting pistol..
Probbly the most accurate 9mm I have found,I have tried quite a few..Some thing else to think about is the S&W M&P..Pick one up and fondle it and it is like it was made for your hand..At this time it is my favorite and maybe the last gun I will have bought..Old age is catching up with me..

I currently own a 5906 and it is an excellent pistol. I don't think the grip size will bother you as long as you leave the factory grips on it. If you decide to put some Hogue wood grips on it, they increase the width of the grip significantly and may then be a problem. I have never owned a SIG 2022, but did own a P229R. It was an excellent pistol and had one of the most comfortable grips of any 9mm pistols I've ever had. However, I'm basically an all steel pistol kind of guy and wound up selling the SIG. However, if I ever find a SIG P229 stainless elite at the right price, I'd really be tempted to get it. Sorry for rambling on, I think either way you will have a very nice pistol.

I've got both a 5906 and a CZ85 (the ambi version of the CZ75).

Both are great guns, but I've been using the 5906 much more than the CZ lately (we are on a S&W forum afterall).

Don't know about the sig 2022, but I also own a Sig P220 in 45 acp. Another great gun, but it's got an alloy frame vs. the all steel S&W and CZ, so it's lighter.

I'm a senior citizen, and I've had many firearms over the decades but the one I find I prefer now for home defense is the 5906.

I bought my 5906 NIB from CDNN late last year. $399.99 w/lifetime warranty. (only one mag). I added a set of Crimson Trace Lasergrips, and I think it's the perfect home defense pistol.

OF those three you specified, the CZ can be had with a fantastic .22LR upper called the Kadet. For about the cost of a decent plinker .22 pistol, you can practice and reinforce draw and trigger techniique on-the-cheap.

While the Sig is a fine gun, I love the S&W more. The external safety is one option, plus more compact mags.

A Sig 226 or 229 would be a decent option. Sig also makes a .22LR conversion for it that allows inexpensive practice.

My home has been protected by a 5906 for many years. You can't do better.

I own both a 5906 (several) and CZ75 (several)...my opinion is that you should probably get at least one of each and never look back! LOL! You CANNOT go wrong with any of these.

If CDNN still had any 5906's left I would own one or two That's the question I haven't seen any really nice ones come up anywhere near that price most are a couple hundred more. Same for the CZ prices on used are higher than I have seen nib. I guess I will walk thru some gun shows looking for a good price.

I have a 6906 and a SigPro 2009 (each very similar to 2 of your choices). Both are good guns but I would choose the S&W as a new gun owner. I think it is simpler to take down and clean and I think the size is better for concealment should that become an option.

I have a 5906 and have not had an issue. Picked up a 5903 and took it to the range today. The grips are a hair smaller, adjustable rear sight and alloy frame so it's about 30% lighter. The wife confiscated it after the first 10 rds. for her.

I own both the S&W & the CZ you mentioned. The CZ 75B is one of the all time best ergronomic pistol designs. Beats the Smith easily. Between these two, the Smith has the better TDA trigger action. If I had to pick between the two it would be very hard.

Recently I considered picking up a 2022. There are some very attractive deals out there right now for this pistol. I believe I read that it's soon to be discontinued by Sig. When I got around to holding one I was amazed. It's one of worst feeling pistols I've ever held. I am amazed that Germans bought it for thief military. In my hand it was just aweful. I'm sure it runs and shoots like any other Sig; that is to say reliable and accurate. Just couldn't see myself ever using it as long as the other two mentioned were in my safe.

i own a 5904 alloy frame,i used to own a ta90 and a tz75 -cz75 copies,the ta jammed abit,mag problems,i would rather have the smith.been real reliable.5906 are nice in stainless.either dont last long in the gun case at the local..good luck.

OW, can you describe what felt so bad? yours is one of if no the only negative comment about that gun.

it's subjective and just my opinion on the Sig 2022. I am not knocking anyone who feels differently. But it was very blocky in my hand. More so than any third gen S&W. Even more than other Sigs like the 220 or the 226. It also has a high bore axis. It felt awkward in my hand.

If the purchase you are contemplating may be your only purchase for a long time, I encourage you to pick them up and run through the manual of arms for each before deciding.

FWIW, I find the Sig's manual of arms a bit awkward for lefthanders. Unfortunate because they make nice pistols.

I own a 5903TSW and a P229R .40 I have never owned a CZ if you are looking for a decent 9mm at a reasonable price there are some Sig P6's coming into the country again you might want to check J&Gsales, www.J&Gsales.com for those. I have never owned a Sig 2022 but, they are a polymer frame which we fondly call tupperware pistols. They will have more of a felt recoil than a metal framed pistol. If you decide to go with the P6 J&G will hand pick you one for a few extra bucks and I would ask them to pick the latest date of Mfg. Good luck in your search. In the end however the best thing you could do if you have never handled a handgun before is go to a range that rents and try several to ensure what feels good to both of you and what you can handle and shoot the best before making a permanent decision.

I've never owned a 5906, so I can't comment on that one. I do currently own a CZ75 BD that I bought with 6 mags for $350. It's a great gun, runs perfectly with zero issues, and feels perfect in my hand. The only Sig I've owned was the P6 which shot fine for me after putting in lighter springs. But the CZ with 15 rounds available to me and better accuracy was the winner in my book, so I sold the Sig. I am buying an unfired S&W 469 9mm that is pre-ban and has hi-cap mags, so I'll see how that stacks up to my CZ. Good luck in your quest, Shoo

I located a new cz75b for $440,the guy is going to get me a price on a BD or a SP-01 Phantom. I held the Sig 2022 it just didn't feel as nice.

No experience with that model SIG so I won't comment.

Contrary to most CZ posts on various web gun forums my experiences have been less than positive, poor springs and magazines with two. Ergonomics are good.

My 5906 has never malfunctioned and the DA trigger is very good. Ergos are OK, not great.

Have you considered the Smith M&P 9, it's a great pistol IMHO.

Unfortunately because of all the reaction to the past election the demand for guns and ammo has caused shortages and higher prices.

The earlier poster with the negative comment was on fit in his hands. He stated the gun was accurate and reliable. You will find every gun model feels differently to different people. You and your wife may not agree on which to buy if you were able to locate and handle two or all three of your "finalists" at the same time. One of you may prefer heavier, the other lighter. the triggers will give each of you a different impression. One thing you have going for you is it sounds like it will be the first/only for both of you. Without something different to compare it to, you might actually not have any issues. For what it's worth, based on what I've read and discussed, any of the three fit the most important criteria: reliable and accurate. Try to get the opportunity to at least handle-ideally shoot- all three. Then pick your favorite and don't look back.

I have the 5906 and now Sig P2022.

Both are good choices in 9 mm and are soft shooters.

I like the Sig better because I can see the sights much better.

I am not about to sell or trade my 5906. The trigger is improved now and it feeds ammo flawlessly and is of course tank tough.

You can not go wrong with either. Good luck.
