I recently bought a used M-41 with a revolver type rear sight. Looks like one on my 625-8.
The slide on the M-41 is drilled and tapped with two holes for a scope. I haven't taken the sight off yet to check for more holes.
I would like to put a scope mount on this slide and was wondering if I need a special mount? All the other M-41.s I have seen use a Bomar or Millet type rear sight.
Another idea would be adding a Millet rear sight for a revolver if I can get on with the correct size blade.
Is this model a tranistion between the old and newer sights?

That was how they came for a short time, you really don't want to alter the original rear sight set up, you should be able to use a scope mount base that will not interfere with the revolver type rear sight. The screw hole pattern in the barrel is a standard pattern. There should be no holes in your slide.

Thanks, I assume I just order a M-41 scope mount, remove the rear sight and use its screw hole along with the other two on the barrel.
If the future is good, I'll buy a dedicated optical barrel. I like the option of using irons.
This is my first S&W 22 pistol. Its replacing my 30 year old HighStandard. I like the ease of operation with the M-41 better then the HS. It will be even better with a red dot.

If your gun came from the factory drilled and tapped, that's all you need to mount a Weaver rail for scope or red dot. I think Smithfan is telling you, correctly, that you do not have to remove the rear, open, sight. Your optics will mount in front of the open sight. My oldest one was drilled and tapped, by a private party, in such a way that I have to remove the rear, Keng style, open sight to mount an optics rail. Search on this forum and you'll find several discussions of mounting optics on 41s.

There are 3 holes for the scope mount, and one of them holds down the front of the rear sight,
I would leave the rear sight in place and screw through that 3rd hole. You will not have to worry about damaging the top edges or losing any of the rear sight parts.

Leave the rear sight alone. The two visible screw holes will do the job.Mine was fine like that, though I thought the dot or scope a novelty, and now just use it with open sights.

I have the same revolver sighted Model 41. There are two holes under the rear sight for the scope mount. You can see them if you take the barrel off and turn it over.
Mine came with a Weaver style scope base on it that was only held in place by the front two screws and the rear sight was left in place so you could still use the iron sights with the mount attached.

Thanks for the advice on leaving the rear sight in place.
I normaly put such things in the factory box for later use. This pistol came without a box.
