I am picking mine up this weekend and cant wait. The dealer has it and I just need to go get her. I am also getting a 60 Pro. Anybody have a 1911 9MM Pro yet? What do you think.

Picked her up this morning and it is a beautiful firearm. The finish is a brushed stainless and the grips are rough but not to rough. The slide to frame is tight no rattle or movement when shaking the gun. S&W is using Wilson Combat ETM mags with the gun. First stop when I get off work is to the range.

Bought the gun this morning and could not wait to get to the range so I went tonight here is my review. I field stripped the 1911 before shooting it to do a quick wipe down and lube with Militec. The date on the fired case is 12-13-08 which is interesting because S&W told me in March they were due to ship in April. I wonder why this gun was built when it was? The pistol craftsmanship is superb the metal is flawless with a dull brushed finish very tasteful. I liked the fact that S&W shrunk their name and logo on the side of the slide the other side of the slide has the words Pro Series in cursive. The grips are textured but I don't know how to properly describe the texture it is almost a natural bark texture with the grips being thinner at the top and bottom and a slight swell in the middle the result is when you pick the pistol up the webbing of your hand is firmly pressed against the beavertail and the trigger finger is perfectly aligned with the trigger.
The trigger is very light and no creep it just breaks.
Slide to frame fitting is perfect racking the slide back and forth the gun feels like it is on teflon coated ice no friction, binding or burrs it truly is like nothing I have ever experienced in a gun.
The sights are standard Novaks. There is a full lenth guide rod and barrel bushing that is a tight fit.
I shot 150 rounds through the gun with no malfunctions. The best part is the recoil it reminded me of the 952 which I have only shot once. My initial reaction to the action of the slide was it was going in slow motion. Not the typical 45 1911 where you feel every action as the slide goes out of battery to its return to battery. This is such a gentle push in recoil that I found I had to adjust my shooting hand to relax and not instinctively clench. I could keep my hand grip just tight enough to hold the gun and that is all I needed. By the end of my shooting session all I was focusing on was my trigger finger and the groups were getting smaller. I was shooting at an IPSC target at 25 yards and keeping them in the head which is good for me and I know I will get better with practice.

I will finish this review by making two statements. I have owned a fair number of guns in my time 50+ and shot many more. This is the most perfect gun I have ever used. And secondly if I were forced to own only one gun this would be my choice. I do own a Kimber CDP II and will see what I can get for it versus the price of a 1911 Pro 45 full size and decide if I can make that my next gun.

Spendy for a 9mm, S&W prices have seem to really gone up in the past few months. I just spoke to a FFL friend about ordering the new 3 inch 1911 and he can get me one for $840 if one can be found. Not sure if they have hit the streets yet but I'm giving him a $200 deposit tonight for when he find me one to lock in the price. Looks like a sweet little 3 incher. That 9mm is a real beaut btw!! Congrats!!

My understanding is that this gun is being produced, at least intially, by the Performance Center department (or they have some primary involvment)...so the price would actually seem in line for what it is. The production models, like the 3" you mention...yes, those will be less expensive.

Looks just like my Pro Series 45, same grips and all, looks great. The Pro Series is supposed to be production gun, tuned up a little by the PC. This is in order to save a few $$, yet give the buyer a little extra over the production model. I have two pro series, would like to have the other two, but one must eat sometimes.

Fired another 150 rounds tonight and I can say this is my favorite gun. I am thinking of selling my Kimber to get the 627 Pro.

I have the 1911 45 pro series and the 686 SSR 357 magnum.

Wolfy, when you have the slide off the frame, is there a plunger on the back portion of the frame where the disconnector and ejector are at...

and when you move the grip safety, the plunger moves????

CQB I the first chance I will have to check is tonight but I just looked in the manual and it says not to press on the grip safety during assembly because the lever will stay in the up position. So I think it has the safety.

Taking a second look at the gun, I wonder why they didn't go with a stainless magwell instead of a black one. Seems like that would look a little better, a little more uniform and seamless.

The black magwell works because the mainspring housing, beavertail, and safety are black.

I did a review search for this pistol tonight as I have found a new one available up here which led me to my fave forum. Thanks for helping me decide but the only probem is that here it will sell for full retail $1695 + tax.

Actually I have the 45 on order my dealer should have iy this week. I hope it is the same quality as the 9.

The Pro Series models are spec'ed by the PC but built on the production line. I doubt they ever see a PC gunsmith.

I can't say if my 1911 9MM Pro has been touched by a PC smith but I have never felt a slide to frame fit that was as solid and smooth as my gun, If this is production line work than PC work must be unbelievable.

PS I also would like to add that the fired case that came with my pistol was from Dec. 5 months before the gun was officially released. So my gun was either a SHOT show sample or a bonus for a dealer. I don't think my gun was made on the regular line because of its date. This is just a guess on my part.

It is my understanding that the first ones made fall in the JRK serial number range. Small run mainly for Shot Show, demos, gun writers, etc. The primary run is in the UBZ serial number range and assembled in the Houlton, Maine factory. PC says they do some prep work on the pistols, mainly barrel crowning and polishing feed ramp etc.

So do I, and like them both.

Waiting to pick it up at my Dealer ... my "Permit" had expired so I had to go through the whole drill all over again because I was not vigilant in Renewing on time.
I've only handled it, several times, in the Dealers shop ... took it outdoors, with him, to see what those Novak sights are like in the Daylight ,,, just INCREDIBLE !
Can't wait to shoot it, soon, and then use it in some informal IDPA Shooting.

Interesting that you can get the same grips for your 1911 as these "RO CO" Turkish walnut grips for $39.90. For some reason I would have thought that the grips for an $1140 gun would be more expensive. In any event, they look great! I'd get some for my 1911 if I didn't like the the Pachmayr grips that I have on it so well.

gvaldeg1 You say the grips are "only" $39.90 for an $1140 gun. Have you held a 1911 9MM Pro? The grips are perfect in fit and function. Why would it be necessary to put grips that aren't as good just cause they cost more? The price of the gun is reflected in the fit and finish of the assembly.

On some pics I've seen of the 1911 pro the grips look as if they have a slight bulge or extra girth in the middle. DO they? If so how does it affect your grip?... good, bad, no difference. Your input is greatly appreciated.

yes the grips do bulge in the middle I which fits well with the hollow of the palm.

I have one with UBZ serial no. Only shot about 50 rounds so far. Sent it back to the repair shop to fix the slide stop. Would come out easy enough, but very hard to reassemble. This is my first time to reply, however I enjoy all the information and insight on this site.

If it came out easily it should go back in easily. They aren't complicated parts. If you aren't experienced with 1911's it can be tricky to re-install until you learn how to find the right angle to push in and up.

I think the RoCo grips are about the best deal out there for grips. I hve a few pairs around here.

Now for the 9mm Pro, one of them would compliment my PC DK quite nicely.
I just have to wait for Mass to say it's OK for me to have one.
