They look as is they are unfinished wood

What should I treat them with...I do not like shiny varnish.

Want to keep sweet and traces of oil off them but do not want them to he slippery

I believe they have an oil finish.Germans like that matte utilitarian look.I suppose you could put a satin spray poly finish on them.

I use Watco Danish Oil. I finish it with successive wet or dry down to 1200, then make a foil dish the right size immerse the wood in the finish for about 10 min. sand with the 1200 wet in oil, reapply in 15 min sand again. Put excess oil back in the can. After 24 hours I apply Renaissance Wax. Result is very smooth but not at all slippery.
