Just got the new issue of the Cheaper Than Dirt Catalog, June 2009 #206. On page 39 is an ad for a fake suppressor for a 22 auto. The copy states in part..."As close to a real suppressor as you can get without paying for the tax stamp!...This fake suppressor will not reduce the sound of firing, and will not affect the impact of the round."

So why in the world would anyone plunk down $29.97 for this thing? Help me out guys, am I missing something here?

I remember in the 70's the auto parts people J. C. Whitney had a fake CB antenne. The ad read " Give your car that CB look"

Maybe the supprossor is to "Give your 22 the Spy look"

Some people think it looks cool. I am not one of those people. I will not say what I think it looks like, because I like it here, and don't want Lee to kick me out.

I believe some people may use the fake silencers as the basis for building the real thing legally or illegally. Guess I am just the suspicious type.

And the worst part is they add weight, cause a
bit more drag, and usually are ineffective
unless the driver is speeding.
They have all that wing and spoiler mess for
the Corolla too..
I didn't want it. That's why I got the CE
version which is lean and light with no toys
added. If I wanted an airplane, I'd get a
Cessna. :/
I think fake anything is fairly silly..
I think one of the silliest is the recent fad
of adding faux Buick 225 triple portholes
to cars like.. Honda civics..

A functioning suppressor is relatively easy to obtain so I don't see the need for the fake. I don't really think it looks cool. I do like being able to shoot a rat without disturbing the neighbors though, with the real deal.

For a .22LR, they are fairly cheap and I can move mine from the P22 to the Mark III or 10/22 in a heartbeat.

The .40, .45 and 9 mm are more expensive. don't have them ......... yet.

Actually, I think they're aptly named . . . they certainly spoil the looks of the car . . . . along with those mufflers that make them sound like a mouse with diarrhea

I have a friend who has been racing semi professionally for years. He says anything under about 130 and the spoilers are close to useless. My original guess has been substantiated here by all of your posts...the fake suppressors are a joke, but not very funny (other than to look at).

Spoilers? I thought those were to make it easier to push after the engine blew from too much NOS

Nitrous is great stuff it can make any engine produce a whole bunch of horse power for a little while.

What is really sad is I was in a pawn shop today and all their .22 autos had fake suppressors on them, price tag listed a price for the gun alone than a price $50 greater to have the gun and the fake suppressor.

That mouse muffler allows the driver to utilize all 91 horsepower of his '92 Honda and the spoiler keeps the Honda from becoming airborne during its 0-60 mph in 3 minutes take-off.

I find nothing funnier than a front wheel drive car with a rear spoiler! when you get going too fast the rear spoiler lifts the front end up thus slowing you down!!
