Guys, when I ordered my two 5906s; I also ordered 10 extra 15 round magazines for them--especially since they may bring back the "10 round" restriction.

Now I'm thinking maybe that I ought to lay in a few more magazines; just to be on the safe side.

Anyway, I see the 30 round magazines sold by Centerfire Systems and Midway; and I wonder if they're worth having...

I don't see them as being particularly useful under all but the most singular defence scenarios...

But I thought they'd be a lot of fun at the range. Now truthfully, as a range toy, they wouldn't have to be anywhere near as reliable as a Serious Social magazine(if the 9mm can ever be thought of as a Serious Caliber).

Nonetheless, at some level, if they jammed enough, they wouldn't even be much fun on the range--what would be the point of a 30 round magazine that jammed every 7 or 8 shots?

Also, I've settled on the 147 Grain Hollow Points as my carry load--I figure that ought to get the stopping power up into the same general ballpark as some +P .38 Specials...

Or failing that, at least equal to the .32 ACP HP...

Does anyone have any good practice loads--preferably with lead bullets--that would approximate the recoil and trajectory of the 147 Grain Hollow Points?

I've asked that last question several places--but I'm still open to suggestion...

I have about 10 of the MecGar Blued 20 round magazines.

I've used them in my KelTec Sub2000, P11, S&W 5906 and 6904/6906.

Never had a problem.

I also sold my friend one for his Marlin Camp Carbine. No Problems.

I have 2 or 3 that are new and unused I'd consider selling you if you were interested?

God Bless!!!

RevCharlie, I have the 17 round MecGars. fits flush in my 659. (they work well also) so do the 20 round mags stick out past the grip or is there a "finger" ext on the mag?

stakley,

Yes, the 20 rounders extend out past the gun about an inch or so.

I've never had any problems using these mags in any gun that I have tried them in.

It is getting harder and harder to locate mags locally and it seems many of the on-line places are running out as well.

God Bless!!

I bought some 30 round MecGars for my Camp 9. I call them "bi-pod" magazines but they work fine and are the same mags for a 5906.

Didn't the factory make 20rd mags "back in the day"?

MecGar makes some 15rd and 17rd mags for the 5906.

I've never had one of the 30rd mags work correctly. All the ones that I've seen were somewhat poorly constructed.

MecGar or S&W factory 20rd mags (I think these are still made) work fine.

A number of companies make generic 147 gr FMJ ammunition. If the various shortages ever subside, one of these offerings would probably make an excellent practice load.
