I have a 1974 vintage Model 59 9mm in nickel with blued accents. The trigger pull and reliability are both excellent. However, I do have a problem with muzzle flip.

I bought it used, so I don't know what kind of recoil spring it contains. Would a lighter-than-stock spring lead to frame battering with standard ammunition? Would it reduce muzzle flip?

stock spring is #14. A lighter spring will lead to frame battering and increase muzzle flip. I would suggest a new stock spring and also a 15 or 16lb spring to try. I've gone to 16lb with no sluggish effects and total reliability in mine.

I agree with rsnyder as you do not want to go to a lighter spring. A new spring should help with your perceived muzzle flip. It will close the slide much faster and with more force than an old spring. Springs are cheap and Midway USA has them in stock for $1.79 plus S&H. Item # 473402. Get a couple and you will see a difference. Bruce

Assuming that I was going to stay at the stock weight, would there be any reason to get a Wolff spring over the S&W spring sold at Midway?

I don't think that you or the gun would notice any difference. The factory springs work just fine and I'm sure the Wolf springs would do as well. Bruce

Model 59 Nickel- Springs will go out Monday morning. I will send a stock 14lb and I believe I still have 15-16lb also, but I will send what I have. Bob

Sorry? No apology necessary. I have two (Two!) recoil springs to choose from.

Thanks again.
