I looked into trading in my SW40VE today. It's like new in box... only a month old actually, cleaner than when I bought it new.

The price I was offered was $160.

Any thoughts?

I think it really depends on where you live. I would say $160 is to low. While some people have picked them up for $250 that is not the current going price. The local gun shows in my area are selling used SW40VE's for about $300 and new ones for about $40 more. So I would say $220-250 is a fair trade in. Exspecially since trade in means you will be buying something else from them.

To get a good idea on price call a couple of gun stores in your area and ask how much a used SW40VE cost without telling them you have a trade in. Now obviously they are going to make some money but it still needs to be "fair".

Bought my used 40VE w/2 mags for $189 about 6 months ago. With the box, mags, etc., a used 40VE is going for about $240-300 around here now. Mine came without the box and 2 ten-round magazines. Bought 2 Hi-Caps for $50, so you can say I paid $250 at the end of the day.

By the way, is there a gun store in America that gives a fair price for a trade-in? I usually sell used guns on consignment (15%), then use that money on another gun. Works better that way.

If it was me, I'd keep that $160 gun.

There is no way that I would let mine go for $250 much less $160.Unless there is something wrong with the gun that sounds too low !

Don't know what state you live in.

Post in in the forum for gun sales for a FTF in you area for $250 - $300 and see what happens.

If you are near western Kentucky, drop me e-mail.

I gave my like new SW40VE to my son in February. He did not like it and traded it in on a Springfield XD9sc. The best offer that he got was $175, and that is what he took. Kinda like trading in a used car.

Yep, but if that's a trade, they will turn
around and flip it for at least $250 or more.
But.. A gun store isn't in biz to work for
free, so that's the way it goes.. About like a
car dealer..
I probably wouldn't sell my 40VE for less than
$300 being I have four hi-cap mags with it.
Sure, they can buy a new one for $339 here,
but will only have two mags. I don't think
any rebates are going at the moment.
The mags are worth $35-40 bucks a pop, so
there ya go.. I think three bills is reasonable.
Course, I'd have to replace it with whatever,
so I'm not going to give it away.
I doubt I would sell it, as I'd have to almost
certainly pay more to replace it. Even if it
was another Sigma.
I paid $250 for mine with the four mags. I still
think that was one of the best deals I'll be
finding these days. That's why I bought it
instead of a couple of used revolvers I was
looking at back then.
They were both Rossi's, and while in good shape,
that brand makes me paranoid.
The 40VE with the lifetime warranty for the same
price as the Rossi's was a no brainer to me.

The Rossi's were a nickle 6 inch .357, or a
nickel 6 inch .44 special. Not a bad deal I
suppose at $250 apiece, but I'd heard about
some problems with their firing pins breaking,
etc. Also these were "old" Rossi's, and I was
worried cuz the company changed hands. I was
worried about getting parts for the older
models.
But the 15 rounds vs 5 or 6 was a factor too..
