tri:

I have both the CS9 & CS45 and there's just something special about the 45 that makes me want to cc it over the 9...

Both are fine pistols tho.

S&W sells new CS45 mags for around $41.00, but Brownell's or Midway sells the very same mag (which in fact they get from S&W) for around $33.00. (I recently bought one.)

I think you'll be well pleased with the CS45.. It's simply not that much larger than the CS9.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

Nice pistol triaxle, I've been contemplating a CS, I saw a blued CS45 at the gun show today. They were a bit too proud of it for my taste.

I'd like to find a 40 however, every other pistol I own I think is 40. Everything I've read on them they are great pistols, like most everthing else S&W makes.

Grats on the new member to the family!!

Cheers,
Sam

Thanks for your reply and photos . I had my eye on the cs for some time I also dig out my old gun mags with info and right ups on them . I like a 9 but to put a big boy down I think the 45 will take the fight out of him faster . Also their is a brand new cs 40 at grice gun shop clearfield pa 519 I almost got them both.

Congrats on the new CS45. Nice subcompact little TDA .45 pistol.

Make sure you get the magazines made specifically for the CS45, though, and don't get the original 6-rd 4513TSW magazines by mistake. The CS45 has the small secondary indentations at the rear of the regular impressed lip indentations to help prevent the top round from being displaced under recoil, and the 6-rd 4513TSW magazines don't. Here's an image of both, with the CS45 magazine on the right.

The CS45 & CS40 are the same size. The CS9 is the slightly smaller sibling.

I also own a CS45 (bought first) and a CS9. I'm the odd one out in that I prefer to carry the CS9 instead of the CS45, although that hasn't prevented me from shooting the CS45 far more than the CS9 (and which has seemingly helped my skills with the less-recoiling CS9 ).

PX15 always has some nice pics to upload.

Here are some other, admittedly less quality, pics comparing my CS45 & CS9. Thumbnails, because the full images were simply HUGE.

As well as a couple comparing the original 4513TSW to the smaller CS45.

I picked a CS9 as my first semi-auto and absolutely love it.I added the night sights and converted it to DAO cause of personal preference.I wanted to immeadiately complete the set by getting both the CS40 and CS45 but my better half vetoed that.I am banned from buying any more guns, especially a 45 cal, because my Dad-Inlaw,retired Air Force has a Colt 1911 that he carried during his military career that will be mine someday. That will be the only addition to my gun safe under threat of death from the MRS.If the rubber grip bother you contact Big Dog who has made custom Delrin Grips for the complete CS line of pistols.Top Gun supply has the night sights for the CS45 at a good price according to Gerold also. His Email is [email protected] God Bless.......Mike

Got a request from someone to post some pictures of a CS45 magazine butt plate. Not sure it'll help much, though, since the butt plates could be switched from one to another magazine body. However, the curved butt plates have been standard on all of the CS45 magazines I've ordered.

Standard narrow/curved butt plate (current) and the wide/flat one originally used on the early 4513TSW 6-rd magazines, both on a CS45.

The difference between the early 4513TSW 6-rd magazine bodies and the CS45 magazines bodies is the addition of the second set of small angled indentations on each side of the magazine, located to the rear and below the large rectangular lip indentations (called P lips). The second set of indentations, as viewed on one side of the right hand magazine body in my earlier posted image, were added to the CS45 magazine after it had already been in production.

I was told that S&W contracted with a local machine shop to have someone add the second set of indentations by hand, one at a time, to the existing CS45 magazines that had already been produced without them. CS45 magazines produced from that point forward naturally had them added during normal production of the magazines.

The reason the second set of indentations was added was because they discovered it was possible for the top round to sometimes become displaced forward during firing because of the increased recoil of the little .45 pistol. The second set of indentations can make loading (and unloading) magazines a bit of a chore because of the extra pressure exerted on the cases by the smaller indentations.

There's a little more to the story as it was told to me by a couple of folks from the factory, but that's the important gist of it from the stand point of using the right magazines intended for use in the CS45.

Naturally, I once tried using my 6-rd 4513TSW magazines in my CS45, and while using some 200gr +P loads, to boot. After experiencing some feeding issues where the top round slipped forward under recoil and wouldn't feed properly, I decided the S&W engineers really had the right idea and made sure I never mixed up my 6-rd CS45 & 6-rd 4513TSW magazines.

FWIW, in the 6-rd TSW magazines without the second set of indentations I also once experienced some last round feeding failures, and some 'live-round' ejection of the last round, when the empty case of the next-to-the-last round was being ejected, when the small raised dimple on the top of the plastic .45 followers became worn through on my 4513TSW magazines. I'd forgotten to inspect them over the course of time while doing a lot of shooting, it seems. Once I replaced the worn followers with new ones the gun settled back down to its normal reliable feeding and functioning.
