OK today I managed to score a 6906 for my collection , the way it came about is a indicator of how bad I got the S&W collecting bug . I went to my favorite shop to sell off a rifle i didn't want anymore . Well it turns out a employee of the store knowing how bad I like collecting S&W semiautos had recent made a private purchase of the 6906 with the PRIMARY intent of holding on to it in case I showed up .Well anyway he got a rifle he wanted and I got the 6906 plus cash from him , so far in the past 3 weeks I've walked out of that store with a 4026 and the 6906 . Now I need to know should I seek counseling and has anyone else here been so marked by their favorite gunpusher ...er dealer .
BTW , another employee there is a proud owner of a FBI 1076 which he uses to taunt me unmercifully . I MUST have it !

I funded most of my S&W purchases since November last year by selling my comic book collection, 1/2 in November and 1/2 in February (I hadn't looked at them for almost five years). I also sold a Sig P228, CZ83 and a Beretta 84F. That money is gone now.
In early December 2006, I owned one S&W, a Model 342 Ti which I sold last year (just too light). Now, I own the following S&W handguns:
15 - 3rd generation pistols
1 - 2nd generation pistol
3 - J frames
4 - L frames
3 - N frames
And I'm not even going to get into the M1 Garands, Swiss K31s, Makarov pistols, Glocks and Sigs.
Oh yeah . . . it's gotten bad.

I have personal cell phone numbers for two guys that work at different gun shops in town. What's worse is they have mine, and use it! (and I'm like an exuberant little puppy when they do)

My wife knew I had one black one, one silver one, and one black and silver one.
If it's not impacting your family's financial situation, seems like an OK vice to me.
...but I may be biased.

I dont collect at all anymore. I have a nice collection that I mostly built up in the 60s and 70s. There are several rare guns that I would like to get, but being retired I have backed way off.

I just come to this thread to feel better about myself. when it went past one (1) uno gun, my wife started calling it a collection.
In fairness.. It's not my hobby so I keep tools and probably have 2 more than i need of those.
btw: you guys have more than my local gun shop !!

I recently did an inventory inspection of mine and I came up with 43 firearms and an estimated value around $50,000 in retail numbers. I have been on a buying spree in the past couple of years as I keep finding handguns for sale I previously have not been able to locate. There is one local dealer I do my best to stay away from as every time I go in there he has something I have been looking for. I recently purchased an HK P9s in 9mm there and I have not seen one around locally for close to 10 years. I have a short list of handguns I am still interested in, mostly pre 1980 Smiths and a few other types that don't show up often. The #1 most wanted at this time would be a post war German Walther PPK-L in .22lr, the #1 Smith on my list is a toss up between an 8 3/8 29-2 blue and a cherry 649 no dash.

When I joined this forum, my S&W inventory was a total of 5 revolvers and I had not made a handgun purchase in about 10 years... the tally is now up to 21 revolvers, 6 pistols and counting. If wasn't for our screwed up guns laws in California, I'd probably have twice that number.
When I think about it, if I add in all of my long guns... I do have twice that amount Damn, that sure snuck up on me.
And yes, I'm on one dealers "A" list. I always know I'm in trouble when I walk in the door and he immediately starts the conversation with "Hey, I'm glad you dropped in, I thought of you when this came in".

According to my database, I've got 80 in my collection. Among the Smiths:
m-28 4"
m-29 4" blue
m-29 4" nickel
m-29 6" nickel
m-27 4" nickel
m-27 4" blue
m-27 5" blue (Long live Skeeter Skelton!)
m-27 6" blue
m-27 8 3/8" blue
m-39 blue
m-19 6" nickel
m-19 4" blue
m-60 2"
m-36 3"
m-642
m-10 2"
m-624 2 3/4"
m-64 3" NY-1
And yes my pusher has my number on speed dial. They just recently moved the shop to a bigger location CLOSER TO MY HOUSE!!!
My captain at the FD asked me one time "Do you have any guns you've never shot?" "Oh, one or two. . ."
I posted a thread a while back. Some of us that suffer from this S&W collecting addiction decided to start a support group. Were going to meet once a month to help us break the cycle of addiction.
Turned into a swap meet. I did get a nice 39, though.

Thanks varoadking. My goal is to add 4 more S&Ws by the end of the year and make my total collection a nice even 50 guns. If it were not for the fact I had my own FFL for 12 years, my collection would not be nearly as big.

I haven't bought anything since the nickel 629-3 with the long barrel in Tulsa.
And now three of my firearms, including one S&W, are on expeditionary duty elsewhere.
They're pre-emptively deployed, you might say.
And it was some of the ones with more character that went out, too.
Since I'm so woefully unequipped overall - I have no long guns except for shotguns - my next couple of purchases will probably be in that area.
Some kind of a 22 non-pistol is probably next, followed by one of the baffling array of larger caliber rifles.

It's so bad for me that my dealer calls me when he gets any nice S&W's brought in.
He just called me to say he got a 2.5" 66 no-dash that's in LNIB condition with the box and all papers. He knows guns, I trust his judgment and he prices fairly, so I told him I would take it sight unseen!
I'll go down on Wednesday and get it.
