First thanks to all here and in the classifieds who gave me good advice especially on prices.
I picked up my 1076 Sunday and was at the range today. I am absolutely delighted.
I have a question about grips. My 1006 and 4516 both have what I would call arched back straps, similar to arched mainspring housings on a 1911, I have big hands and have always preferred this style. In addition the grips are rubber rather than hard plastic.
The 1076 has hard plastic with a flat back strap. A short search has not found any other style available, of course the 1006 grips will not fit.
Does anyone have an idea about availability of something similar to my 1006, if S&W do you have a part #.
Thanks,
Roger

Old Rodger,
Check out this post HERE.
There were three types for the 1026 and 1076, straight, arched and arched palm swell.
I just ordered some palm swell ("FBI") ones from Smith and Wesson.
P/N 20500, they were discontinued for a while.
They are thicker than the arched backstrap and straight backstrap ones.
Regards,
BM1

You can also buy a set of hogue grips for the 45xx series and modify them to fit around the decocker. You also have to file/grind/sand or however you choose to do it, the upper inside of the left side grip panel to fit the mechanicals. And you need to file out a small notch on the opposite panel to fit the decocker lock ring. I probably cut my notch for the decocking pawl too much, but it still works great and feels good in my hands.

Thanks guys, Firebirdv8, my 1006 & 4516 have grips with screws as you show, the 1076 has a pin at the base very similar to a 1911 main spring housing pin. I looked at a pair of old 1006 grips I have and couldn't see how to fix that problem.
I will call S&W tomorrow and get an order in.
Roger.

Are you sure the FBI grips are available. I was told by S&W that they did not have any more of these grips.

They are available again, unless there is a seperate SKU that was produced exclusively for the FBI vs. these...
I just received them from Midway USA, about $18 each.

I have a set of what I believe to be 1076 grips in my stash that I bought from KY Imports
They do not have the palm swells..
They are made for the decocker..
If you would like to try them oldRoger give a email & I'll send them to ya..
They'll just sit in my stash, this way someone can use them..

Hope you can use them..
There the flat sided non palm swell I assume for a 1076..
Look exactly like the ones in wilshire1412s pic
I can't see the swell in the pics but his package is marked as such..

nice gun wanna sell it?

Oh you don't want this one, it shoots terribly and that grip modification is ugly, just kidding. I like this 1076 way too much to sell it.
