Just picked up a 4536 in very good shape for $359. Yay me. It came with 3 mags. 2 mags are marked "This magazine must have a yellow follower." The third has the above mark, and also has "only for use in 4516-1. Not for use in 4516 or any other revision of the 4516." Whats the deal with these magazines? Just curious really, never seen them marked like that before.

disregard the mag question, found the answer.

Still pretty pleased about the find though.

I thought most Smith .45 mags were interchangeable in the 4500 series -- although the long ones poked out...

What gives...?

Can you post photos of the 4536? Congratulations!

There was a change in the follower design. The new yellow followers would not work in the older magazine as the feed lips were changed slightly. Since then there has been another redesign and the new followers work in all 4500 magazines.
