I'm looking for comments on the "Ultimate Cliploader" manufactured by McFadden Machine, has anyone used one on the M41 or 22A?

Or is there a better loader option for these fine 22's?

The model 41 magazine is larger than the Ruger MKII/III and won't fit in the UCL. Apparently that is why the UCL is advertised for the Buckmark and Ruger MKII/III.

All I've seen out there is the HKS Magazine Speedloader and the ADCO Super Thumb Magazine Loader Single Stack 22 Rimfire Target Pistols Polymer Black . Both are cheap and easy to use but definitely a far cry from the UCL.

It is possible to modify the UCL for use in S&W magazines. You can find the info on the Net somewhere. But a couple of shops are doing the mods and reselling models for the S&W and Beretta. Amazon has them listed and Speedbeez the 617 speedloader company is doing them among others.
When it comes to loading 22 pistols mags there is the UCL and everything else is a distant 2nd place. Take it from a competition rimfire shooter.

I looked at the Speedbeez and it says for S&W 22a. Is that ok for M41? Thanks

Unhappy No Joy For Our 41 Mags

Hey bigi,

I contacted SpeedBeez about this and, alas, they will not work for the Mod. 41 mags. Their mod only works for the 22A. Our only alternatives are the thumb-operated plastic goodies that depress the knurled feeding knobs on the follower, AFAIK.

If someone knows different, please let us in on your secret!

HTH,
"Point Blank" Frank

Not sure why you would need a loader to load m41 mags. With the little buttons on the side to pull down with my left hand, my right hand just drops the rounds into the mag, pulling the buttons down a little more with each round loaded. Less than 30 sec per mag to load.

I recently bought some new mags for my 46 which are the same ones as the 41. They are very stiff to push down and after refilling these new mags about 4 times on the range my fingers do start to get sore. I am not a wuss but am getting older. With the artheritice acting up they can be a royal pain somedays for guys like me. Brownells can not sell across the border these kind of products to the Canadian shooters so it makes them hard to find for us over here. I do have one for my 9MM but its a unknown brand name that works quite well actually as well.

I would shy away from a manufacturer that want's to sell a "cliploader" for a magazine.

FWIW.

You can say what you want about the Ultimate Clip Loader, but it is a product that works and makes loading magazines a breeze. No one can put ten rounds into a magazine faster than with the UCL. When you go through 500 rounds in a session, it is a thumb saver and a mega-time saver. I wish that someone made one for the S&W 41.

When people see the UCL they all say they want one. For a little more than a box of bulk ammo, it is well worth it.

Well for one thing the UCL will load a 10 round mag for a compatible pistol like the Ruger or Browning in something like 5 seconds or less. So in the time it takes you to load one mag a shooter of those guns could load six mags. I have done it in a little less with Browning mags.

I have since obtained both a M41 and a Baby Uplula loader. They both work extremely well with my M41 mags and my old paws as well. Very quick to load and easy on the fingers.

I have lots of speed loaders - the McFadden device I had to modify by making the receiver shorter and wider to work with my SR22 magazines.
It is a bit bulky but I like it.
another option is a bit more portable and comes with a lanyard so you don't lose it and it is readily available is the Brass Stacker - Ruger SR22 Magazine Loader :: Ruger™ Platform Products :: Brass Stacker™

If you hit their link, it tells you it does not work with a Model 41 or a 22a made after 1991.

Maybe my 41 mags are well broken in, all I use is my left thumb.

What do I have to do to make the UCL Ultimate Cliploader UCL22 Mag Loader to accept the mags of a 2016 model 41? Mcwsky 09 said: "I had to modify by making the receiver shorter and wider to work with my SR22 magazines". I do not know if the SR22 mag is identical to the M41 mag. Is this modification easy? Is there somebody who can tell me more about the conversion? thank y all peter

According to one website I found, it can not be modified to work with the 41. That's like issuing a challenge to me, so I've ordered two from Amazon, one for the Brownings I have, and another one to play with to see if I can make it work with the 41.

I used the baby uplula for both my 22A and my M series 41 and m46's as well. It works great for both. Even my old hands can handle them with ease and its very quick to use as well.

OK, here's the skinny on the UCL. Using a magazine from my Buckmark, which fits in the ULC like it was made for it (duh), and comparing it to a magazine from my 41, there are significant differences in size. The Browning is about .075" thinner than the S&W and the Browning is about .070" shorter (front to back, not length wise) than the S&W. So over all, the S&W is a fair amount larger overall than the Buckmark. Not an insurmountable difference if you have access to a milling machine, you say. I believe in order to make this work, you would need to remove equal amounts side to side, but all of the difference between the magazines would have to be removed from one side of the ULC's magazine bay, and that's going to just about wipe out that wall. Planning ahead, you may get by by with reinforcing the wall with something like JB Weld (a personal favorite). You may also need to reduce the size of the screw head that catches the magazine button, but that's going to be a hit or miss proposition, as the button on the S&W is small, and too much off the screw and the button won't catch like it's supposed to and too much and the magazine itself won't clear either.

Bottom line, I believe it can be done - but it won't be easy.

That's a lot of work to modify something that doesn't even work well on magazines that it's SUPPOSED to fit (in my experience). After using this thing - or more accurately, TRYING to use it - I can't come up with a single reason to recommend it. Many people here have said they like theirs. For the life of me, I can't figure out why.

According to YouTube videos, it works great - but then so did the Ronco Popiel products.
