I see the 4583 wasn't made very long...was it something that was made to fill a niche that wasn't there?

I picked one up at the FTW show...decent price with the box and 2 mags...i like the shorter barrel and it's alot lighter than my 4506-1

I don't see it mentioned here often...if at all?

I'm taking it that the 4583 is a DOA 4-1/2" alloy .45.

That's an interesting piece -- and I would snatch one up...

What's the trigger action like? Give us a range report. Even it's not great as is, I hear a good trigger man can do wonder with them.

S&W DOA have been notoriously under-appreciated. I was a Smith lover -- and as such, even I couldn't fathom what great shooting guns they are -- until I shot a Smith rep's 1086.

It was an astounding pistol...

If people had shot these guns more, the DOAs would have sold far better. Still, most folks just can't believe -- looking at it cold -- that a DOA can be one of the best shooting guns you'll ever fire.

The limited mindset I had at the time wouldn't allow me to even half-believe that the DOA would shoot worth a ****. That experience taught be to be more open-minded about much more -- and to demand, "Show me..."

Boy, was I wrong about the DOA format being a clunker -- at least on the two 1086s I fired.

I don't know whether these had trigger work or not, but man, even a confirmed Glock fanatic (Smith hater) I knew who shot one of these couldn't help but rave about it.

It made him shut about about not liking Smiths...

I'd love to hear your impressions. Can you post photos?

Varo,

That's a 4583, I take it?

What's the weight differential with a 4586 -- or is that an 4586?

Nice piece! -- and it looks as if it's sporting fairly new night sights...

It's a 1086...

The only alloy framed pieces I have are the Shorty .40, 39-2, 6946, 4053, and a prerail 4053TSW.

The alloy frames are significantly lighter than their steel frame counterparts...
