Just wanted to give a "BIG THANKS" to Grinder for giving me the heads up on the Auction Arms 356TSW Limited.
I've been trying to con him into letting one of his go, to no avail.
This one was priced right with all the paperwork, box and three mags.
It will go nicely with my little one.
Thanks again Grinder,
BM1

Took them both to the range today, the big one (The Limited) is way more accurate than my eyes/hold is.
Put it on a bench rest at 50 ft. with federal match 147 g. and shot the 10 ring out of the target.
Words can not accurately describe this .356TSW caliber out of a 5.00" barrel.
Today I heard that there was only 150 of them made.
The post on the little one is HERE.
Regards,
BM1

Looks like a nice one BM1
There were around 500 made of the Limiteds and 300 of the Shortys with the TSW prefix
Are you going to reload?
Enjoy

He is now. He just bought all of my supplies yesterday.

Just another excuse to visit the gun shops in his area.

Grinder, You can bet on it. Although I do have over two cases of the Federal Match to fall back on.

Rbert0005, Thanks again for meeting up with me.

I found this in another post that I started about the compact, bottom of page #2:

Sirs;
Some time back I purchased a pair of S&W Performance Center pistols that came from you, and was told that they were a limited run of 500. I have since seen them in the blue book and it does not state that they were a limited run. The ones I have are consecutive SNs--0xx,0xx,and unfired. I was wondering if they are of a limited run or not...Thanks ....Tater....

Dear Tater,
Thank you for your interest in Lew Hortons. Lew Horton's produced two M3566 Special Editions from the S&W Performance Center. The 3 1/2" barrel model had a run of 300 produced. The 5" model had 125 produced.
Also-the Performance Center produced a stocking dealer special edition with a 4 1/4" barrel. You would have to contact S&W to find out how many of these were produced. Their phone # is 800-331-0852.
Thanks again for your interest.(end quote)

BM1,
I'll stick with my numbers
The TSW prefix is approximately 800 units
800 - 300 Shortys = 500
The first run of 5" Limiteds was around that number, maybe that is where they came up with it.

Well,
I just couldn't help myself, I had to revive one of my old threads.
With all the barrel making that I have been doing, I just had to.

Last week I ordered a 9 m.m. - model 952 barrel from S&W.
Customer Service first told me that it has to be "Fitted by a Factory trained Armorer".
But since I have spoken to many, many of their top people (Name dropping of course),

He shipped one out,
I fitted it today since my friend's shop doesn't run on Saturdays.
I did what I've been calling a #4 class of fit, complete, barrel to slide to frame.

It might be just a half of a hair tight but it should loosen up a little.
I kept the barrel to Briley Bushing clearance .0001" - .0003", that's only because the bushing was slightly out of round.

.0003" to .0005" clearance from the barrel/slide lug to the chamber hood lug/breech face locking slot.
S&W calls for .002" to .008" clearance for Production/Combat/Personal Defense guns.

The barrel bottom side ramp/radius to the pin on the slide stop assembly, I left a slight interference, where the slide slightly locks into battery with a little resistance.

Smith and Wesson lists the 3906, 5906 and the 356 TSW Limited using the same spring, but the slide is heavier.
5906 AS 9 m.m. - - - - - - - = .989 Lbs. or 15.824 Oz. - Stock 14# S&W Spring P/N 06048
3906 AS 9 m.m. - - - - - - - = 1.006 Lbs. or 16.048 Oz. - Stock 14# S&W Spring P/N 06048
356 Limited 5.00" .356TSW - = 1.248 Lbs. or 19.968 Oz. - Stock 14# S&W Spring P/N 06048

Might need to get a reduced power spring pack from Wolff.
I hope to range test in a couple weeks, if I can get away.
I will post the results.

Regards,
BM1

Fine job Sir
Let us know what pound spring works for you
They sent a spring with mine after the PC fit my barrels, but never said the specs

Hey Grinder,
Would you happen to have the wire diameter size, the number of full
coils and the length of that spring?
Thanks,
BM1

BM1,

As you know, I'm interested in this particular project myself. We'll see what Grinder comes up with, but I will also measure the springs out of both my 3566 and my DPA 5906 5" (which should be what you are looking for)tomorrow at work. If loads at specific lengths will help (i.e. @ closed and @ full rear stroke) , just let me know as I have equipment to meaure that as well.

Yes Sir,
The more dimensions, the better.

BM1, here's what I have as far as dimensions. Didn't get to the forces yet, but my 3566 spring definitely has a higher spring rate. Seems logical to me that it might also work for a 4-something inch 9mm given the lighter slide.

I might add that I bought both of these guns used, so I can't guarantee they have original springs. I can say the 5906 spring has worked flawlessly for over 2,000 rounds of 115gr. and 147gr. mix and ejection patterns would indicate slide velocity is about right albeit weak compared to some other 9's I have. I haven't tried it, but I imagine the stiffer 3566 spring would be too much and you would run the risk of short strokes.

Also, did you check to see what spring part number S&W has for the Super 9? Last time I looked at their parts list, I noticed that model was listed. I can't imagine it used a different spring.

DPA 5906 5"
Free Length = 5.98"
Wire dia. = 0.042"
# of active coils = 35.5 (both ends closed)

3566 LTD
Free Length = 5.67"
Wire dia. = 0.042"
# of active coils = 24 (both ends closed and ground)

As you would expect coil diameters were the same for both.

BM1,
my measurements are close to SW247s
Original .356 5" = I got the same
the 9mm springs they sent are 6.125" X .042 X 36 coils

Thanks

Thanks guys,
I spoke to S&W yesterday and forgot to ask about this one.
I see the listing for the Super-9 spring, wonder if it's the one I need?
Can't get to the range for a while, too busy with the barrel conversion project.
