Hi,

I have a DPA5906 and I thinking of POSSIBLY selling it. Are these guns rare?

How much are they worth?

Living in California, I would more than likely never be able to find another one...

Can you post pics? Is it a 4" or 5" barrel? Would you want to trade for an M&P40? Can't hurt to ask.

LOL!

Matt, it is a 4" model. I will try to get some pics up in the next few days. Unfortunately, my camera is acting up. Can't get the CF card to lock in.

The DPA guns are up to around serial #500.
The first 150 run were 4" standard civilian PC sales.
After that they were LE only.
The 5906 5" and 5903 5" are DPA serials also
S&W is still making batches on and off.
Guessing 450= 4" 5906
50= 5" 5906
10= 5" 5903

Prices on the 4" are $800 - $1000 depending on condition
The 5" guns are higher (I won't mention what I paid)

When Smith makes a small batch of these 5906 DPAs, how do you find out about them. I don't mind buying used models but I would like to know about these special runs when they first come out. Sorry, don't mean to hi-jack the thread.

Matt,
I've bought all mine used from LE officers except my first run 4".
I think you can get put on a list at S&W for a "next run" if it is a model still in production.
As for new models, I too would love to have a notice.

Grinder, from my own DPA guns, and the few others I've seen offered for sale, I suspect you're right on the serial numbers. My 4" DPA gun is very low 400s and my 5" is in the 480s. I've not personally seen any higher serial number DPA gun, so I believe a total of around 500 might be about right.
As far as prices, I did see a used/~95% 4" DPA pistol for sale at a gun show several months ago for $850.00. I don't think it came with the factory case/pouch or paperwork.
Like a lot of other people, I usually only find out about these limited run PC pistol offerings after the run is sold out, frustrating.

Thumbs up

When I phoned the PC about these (4"ers) around the fall of '97, and chatted with Tom I think, he was pretty excited about them. I seem to remember reading several teams used these in the Winter IDPA national about that time as well. After reading Grinder's post, I pulled my 4" out of the holster - its' S/N is in the mid 200's. This trigger is smooth and clean; the pistol shoots much better than I do. Those first 150 pistols should be even more desireable.

I missed out on the alloy framed 5"er I wanted.

But the 4"er is real nice, a keeper:

I know they have mounts for them. There was a Tactical .40 on one of the auctions that had an optic mounted so I know it can be done.

I just happened to save the photo if you want it.

Here's what I was toying with: http://www.aristocratproducts.com/page6.html

My DPA serial numbered 5" model is just on the high side of 450. I've only seen 5" models with S/N's above 450, but that's only been about 4 guns. Now back early last year I saw multiple guns with a UCP prefrix...can't recall exactly how many now, but I think 3. I was only able to get the serial number off one of those. Multiple calls to S&W kept getting an answer that they only made the one I had a serial number for in December of 2009. Go figure...

So as for selling it, mine will be the last gun I let go if push comes to shove...save maybe an 870 since it will work better on the zombies. I also paid through the nose for mine and it was not mint, but a very well cared for shooter with a PC extended magwell and MMC sights installed aftermarket. If I don't wear it out before I'm done with it my kids can fight over it.

Serial Number DPA0026 rests "safely" in Western Pa. as an unfired safe Queen. After I bought it I just never switched over from the guns I had been using.

That "gun"; which I had been using, and continued to use till about 2006, was one of the PC's "Stocking Dealer compacts" SD9s; an all steel 9mm, 6906 with a 4.25 in barrel.

I was shocked, after having the SD-9 for 10 years to find out that only about 100 were made......so.....it was off to the safe. I switched to a Beretta Elite II

With its short butt, long barrel and stainless steel frame....it was like shooting a target .22. It came with both a 12rd and 15rd mag. w/ adapter.

At the range it was my "What the XXXX is that ?" gun. Followed by "boy that's heavy"; and "where can I get some of these 15rd mags for my 6906?"

OK; here's the dilemma. Over the years the question has been......do I buy a new camera or get another S&W?

I think everyone on this Forum know the answer to that dilemma!

I'll see if I can get the wife to lend me her.......camera; after all she has been known to borrow a S&W from time to time.

Thanks, I bought that from a fellow PPC shooter that said it was junk. This one actually shoots better than my first DPA that I used to win two State Championships. It sits in the safe now as a back-up, just in case something happens to my other one.

That's good to hear, if I remember - the Tactical 40 came with the same Novak style sights - and I'd like a good dot on my DPA. The Aristocrat mount looks interesting for the PPC, or maybe machine that cut on another pistol...

I'll try to get a pic this weekend if I can get the camera back from the wife...she's taking some photography class so now she thinks its hers for some reason. Go figure...

LOL, some folks think buying a new pistol will make them shoot better. If they don't practice the result is same no matter what gun they use. My 5906s have been outstanding, except for the 5" pistol. I can't bear to fire a round through it.

What are the chances that more will be offered next week at Nats? It's basically the target market, right?
