Are there any differences between the first 915's in 1992 and the last ones in 1994?
I'm wondering about guide rods and sights.

Not that I recall, but I could be wrong. If there are, it would not be design based differences, but just material or manufaturing method.

One area that you might look at, however, is replacing the plastic magazine catch with the LE version that S&W sells to cops, which has a metal tab that interfaces with the metal magazine.

Plastic mag latch with metal magazine is not bad for limited duty use, but for hard duty it will wear. This was pretty well found out in the Glock brand when after market companies came out with metal magazines and they chewed the magazine latch into oblivion.

You should check with S&W and see if your magazine latch is plastic and if so, have them refit the metal tabbed one, or if you know how to do it, have them send you the replacement.
