Tried 'em, but don't like the red ones - being color blind, that's just a dark dot on a dark background. Green and yellow show up really nicely, though. Best are TruGlo TFO which are also tritium nightsights. Critical factor is to match the height correctly.

This was taken outdoors on a cloudy day, no special lighting:

I have an EGW front fiber optic on the Colt CCO I just built. First time using this type of sight and I love it. Eyes are just drawn to the sight (I use a big dot green as EGW make a small F.O. and a big dot). Reholstering is a bit more difficult as most holsters are made for iron sights but you'll get used to it. Even at night although they don't glow they are easy to pick up on. Can't go wrong IMO.

I have the Truglo TFOs on my Glock 22 duty pistol and I love them. My qualification scores went up, the sights are so much easier to pick up day or night, I qualify in the high 90s all the time now. they are the best sights I have ever had.

My favorite fiber optic sites, the one that comes standard on the S&W 1911 Pro Series. Thus cutting down on additional expense.

Not to throw something negitive out there but, they can break. I found that out on my 625. It was a S&W FO front sight that cracked and fell out. Maybe it dos'nt happen often, but it can.

I had sent mine to Novaks..they installed both the front fiber and rear wide...plus some trigger work if I remember right..don't remember the total cost as its been awhile but if you check out their website..gives you a price list for varied work they do..and turn around time was pretty quick as well...

Hi all.. I got my sigma 40ve yesterday and although the white dot sights are ample I'd like to fiber optics on her. I see the rear is drift, but the front puzzles me. Any one try the Nitesites that are a sponser on the Taurus forum.. By the way the Sigma replaced a Taurus 100AFS..Had the Taurus about 3 weeks. Couldn't wait to replace it. Not ideal for ccw AT ALL unless you're a lineman for the Giants. Heavy and huge. Only have put 1/2 a box of 180 winnie white box fmj thru it. Not a hiccup. I have a new love.. Happy Turkey day all Stash

I shot wheelguns with a retired Navy pal who was starting to develop cataracts in his mid 60's. A couple of years before, I'd installed a set of Meprolite Tritiums on it for him. He started losing the front sight due to his eyes lenses being clouded by the cataracts. The EDM's had just started being produced for wheelguns at the time. Popped a front (only) on for him in green, and he was back in business! I e mailed Tru-Glo a few weeks ago to ask if they had any plans to make their fiber optic/Tritium sights for S&W products any time soon? They e mailed back, that sight sets for some S&W auto's would begin being produced in 09'.

Yes, I tried them and was very unimpressed. They won't stay on your sights - even with super glue on them, they fall off pretty quickly. I guess the one good thing they could be used for is for proof of concept for those wondering what real night sights might look like before making a big investment. I have tritium night sights on my Sigma and was surprised that they aren't as bright as I thought they would be.

Regards,

Dave

That is good news about the TruGlos, I love my TFOs and if I could put some on my Smiths it would rock.

There are a number of good fiber optic sights out there. Warren-Sevigny is one of the best overall combos going. They offer them as drop-in for a lot of popular guns out there.

Dawson Precision and Brazos Custom have some nice options as well.

It seems that most of the competitive USPSA shooters have them on their iron-sighted guns. I have them on all of mine.

They can and will break. The good thing is that replacing the fiber is pretty easy on the better sights. Clean it out, melt the one end, pull it through, cut and melt the other end....done.

Personally, they're only on my match guns. For a carry piece I want a tritium sight setup because fiber optic doesn't help at all if it's truly dark....and as discussed above, they can break.

Almost none of the competitive shooters use fiber optic rear sights. They don't really offer anything since you should be focusing on the front sight anyway and it's just one more thing to have to clutter up your sight picture. For the same reason I don't particularly like night sights while shooting during the day, but it's a compromise worth making since they make a huge difference at night...the same can't be said of fiber optics. R,

That's why I like the Tru Glo TFOs, Fiber optic in bright daylight, they stand out like nothing else. At night the tritium illuminates the fiber optics, same sights day and night.

Spotteddog, You don't think Tru Glo meant it was going to just make them for the M&P do ya? Since the 3rd Gen guns are not being produced anymore I wonder if they would bother building sights for them.

Dunno'?
The M&P's were what I'd inquired about.
Is it an extensive machining operation to have the M&P cuts done, on your Gen-III slide?
You could always light a Sunday candle though?

I can't know about the machine cuts, since the slide is already machined for the sights that are on it, I may be out of luck as the machining might already be too much.

Thanks Magnum,
Your pictures really helped put me over the top on the 1911 Pro. I'm really impressed with those Novaks and wonder about Red optics in the front and Green optics rear, or, vice versa. Have you seen or tried any other combos other than all Red?

I have the green on my 686 SSR. really helpful for these nearly 70 yr old eyes.

And, the other pictures of the Fiber Optics posted here helped as well.

Have you found it necessary to use any special Holster to accomodate and protect these sights?
Thanks
Ken

I actually used the Hiviz FO front sight on my M&P9 to replace the front sight on my 4586 - worked like a charm. It's the right height and fit the dovetail cut w/o any alteration.

Wondering if the "all Red FO" combo is as pleasant and effective as some other combo that uses two colors .... maybe Red or Green up front, and white dots etc in the rear.
Hope someone here has experimented ... I think there was another post elsewhere ... I'll try to find it and ask the Poster to comment.
