I recently aquired a 39-2, and ran 100 rounds through it today. I was very happy with the accuracy, and reliability. Very nice shooting pistol. I think it was made in the early 70's, but don't know much about the history. Does anyone know where I can download a manual for this gun? I stripped it down, and cleaned it (absolutely filthy) it's amazing it ran so well. When I went to reassemble I had some resistance getting the slide back all the way, and inserting the slide lock pin. I didn't want to force anything, and wondered if there is a "trick". On a side note what is the average value on a fair condition 39-2 with light wear on the blueing, and grips? Thank's in advance for any input.

Well, I was going to e-mail you a pdf of an S&W manual for semi-auto pistols, but your e-mail address is not in your profile. The manual is for later models, but also covers the 39 series.

Check the front of the recoil spring guide rod. It it protrudes from the barrel bushing by more than about 1/16", you might want to try reassembling the slide/recoil spring. Most likely you didn't have the recoil spring guide's end properly centered on the semi-circular cutout under the barrel.

A generic instruction booklet for S&W centerfire pistols can be found at:
http://stevespages.com/page7b.htm

The Generic Pistol guide is 4.42MB. The Model 59 is only about 2.3Mb.
