Does the magazine disconnect on the 3rd gen and M&P pistols make the magazines not drop free? I was reading a commentary on mag safeties and one of the points was made is that they can make magazines harder to release, thereby increasing reload times. Is that true for the 3rd gen and M&Ps?

IMO, no it's not the mag safety that causes the problem but some mags can cause it to happen. When you know what to look for it's an easy fix.

With my CS9 I can say a resounding no.I can drop the mag and load a new one as fast as any of the Glock guys at my range......Mike

The M&P series has a fixed ejector, so the comment on the posted thread isn't applicable.

There are a number of magazine disconnector designs that make the magazines not drop free. These designs dated from a time when magazine retention was a big deal. The Browning High Power is a good example. The issue can be fixed, but requires knowledge & patience.

The M&P mags drop free regardless of whether or not you have a magazine disconnector.
