Can someone tell me how they marked the color on the side of my new (to me) arrival.
I understand it is laser engraved, but the color is put on how?
That Eagles beak sure does look like a Duck.
Thanks,
BM1

The first time I looked at it all I saw was the duck. It took a few looks to see the eagle. Now thats funny!

I guess I'm the only one that saw the eagle first, I had to look at the cropped pic of just the beak before I figured out what you were talkin about.
Anyway I have no idea how they get the color on it, that aside I would have to say I don't care much for it detracts from the guns beauty IMO. Is that a factory job or did somebody actually pay to have that done to their gun?

It's a factory SW1911 Deluxe "United We Stand" Edition.
And I just shot mine today for the first time, it's real smooth and tight.
It's right up there with my PC-945, Colt "Gold Cup National Match", and my "Delta Elite N.M.".

Ok,
I've waited over a year now and decided to go "btt" with this one,
because I still do not know how the color is done on the slide markings.
Anyone, TOMBECK , Wesman, Grinder, Ted-1?
Thanks,
BM1

Laser Markings - How do they get the color?
Ok,
I've waited over a year now (AGAIN) and decided to go "btt" with this one,
because I still do not know how the color is done on the slide markings.
Anyone, TOMBECK , Wesman, Grinder, Ted-1?
Sorry about beating a dead horse with this, but, someone must know..................
Thanks,

mlk18,
Thanks for the informative link.
It was worth the wait.
I wonder if S&W did it in house or sub-contracted it out?

I'm new to the forum and came across this old thread. I recently purchased this same pistol and would appreciate any information you can provide. Manufacture date, significance of engraving / commemorative, value, etc. Notice there wasn't much dicussion about the pistol.

BM1, this is the only thing I could find online about etching stainless steel.
Quote:
Photo etching stainless steel is similar to PCB etching. Clean and degrease the surface. Apply dryfilm photoresist which comes in rolls (I am using one manufactured by Dupont). Expose the image to be etched. Develop in 2% sodium carbonate solution. Wash in clean water. Heat the metal. Apply lacquer on sides and back to protect it from etchant. Let it dry for some time. Put it in:
- 35 - 40% ferric chloride solution and
- keep agitating.
For deep etching longer time is required.

You're just looking at it wrong...it sort of fools the eye the first time you look at it. It fooled me at first.

Late at night.......that's when the zombie threads rise from their graves. This one should have died in 2007, but here it is to haunt us again.
