Our in uniform carry pistol was a 4506. My off duty is a CS 45.

4053. It's not an upsized 9mm, it's a downsized 45/10mm, ought to last forever. Not much bigger than a 3953 and holds the same number of cartridges.

8 years later and I am also still carrying a 39XX series pistol. Because nobody makes anything as nice. Nobody. Regards 18DAI

I voted for the 3913 and I really like the 3913 , but the PC9 is my sentimental favorite.

Good choices....looks like the PC-9mm I've been carrying since about 96/97...down to stippled grips ( mine are more of a fish scale pattern) and extra 15rd mag.....for the most part though my 3913NL with 7+1 and an extra 8rd mag is GTG in the "burbs of the Burgh".

Never liked the "pinky" rest on the 6906 mags; I use a 5906 base plate on a 6906 mag ground back to the frame.....as my primary .

My pick would be the 3904 that I went through the academy with in 1989. I wish I still had it.

The other benefit is that the 6904 will accept the longer 59xx magazines. The 59xx mags are still available most places.

Ah... now a 10 year old thread resurfaces...1st after 8 years and now after 10... and I am still a 3913NL or 4513TSW 6 round fan. I would carry both if i didn't live in England and my guns in this great country. I also like/ have the 4516 but find it a little heavy for EDC. I have a CS 9 and 45 as well but don't usually carry them. The only one I sold as I just couldn't' get used to it was the 6906. To bulky for my liking... concealed.

Back in after 10....... still my first year 3913NL 90% of the time w/ the flush fit 7rd magazine from the LadySmith model...... or a PC Shorty-9 (I got in 1996) when I want higher capacity.

See no reason to change

Like mbliss I had and found a 4516 too heavy for everyday carry..... switched to a 4516TSW but couldn't find enough 6round magazines to make me happy..... switched to a Sig 245.... which I still have, though I rarely carry a .45 these days.

As I've posted in many other threads..... I've found that new doesn't mean better...... just new!

I have been carrying the 3913 since I bought it last year. It does everything I need in an off duty pistol, and is not made of plastic.

For the slight difference in length and weight, I'll happily carry the 915 with 7 more rounds.

915s are my favorite full size Smith 9mm...... check out Meggar they make some nice flush fit 17 and 20 round mags for the 915/59xx guns.

For concealed carry in the Burbs of the Burgh 3913..... 7+1 +8 is GTG most days...... SHTF days..... 915 or Beretta 92 Centurion.

I had been carrying a 6906 for over a dozen years when this thread was originally started. Still am although I did change out the original recoil spring a couple years back. Joe

I just updated my 3913 with fiber optic front sight to help my old eyes and has been my summer carry for many years. However my newly acquired 5903 SSV has become the new summer carry in a lot of situations. Winter carry has been updated from 4566/4006 to a M&P 2.0 5" 9mm. I tried to replace the 3913 with a Shield and a M&P Compact 2.0 but the 3913 still shot better.

I’m on board with this one too.

I post too much about mine, but I love it.

Yes, technically it isn’t really a 915 anymore since it’s just a 915 frame with other odds and ends thrown in. But the full size aluminum frame/stainless steel slide and associated parts are just heaven in the third gen platform, for shooting and carrying.

My obsession will never waver. I only regret not buying one sooner and not having more.

Edit: I use the fantastic Mec-Gar 17 round mags, giving me 18 total if fully topped off.

I've got a 3913 LS, but the one I really like shooting is one of the "N.P.D." 3953 pistols. In response to the original question, I think the 3953 is the one I would carry just because of that amount of practice with it.

I agree completely. Carried a 3914 (stripped 3913) since they first arrived. Purchased a just out 4040Pd for the same reason, exact dimensions in 40 cal.

Light, well made, beautiful, fits my hand perfectly.....and powerful. Jim

I voted 3913, but only because the 3953 wasn’t listed.

**Well crud, I didn’t notice the ‘Other’ option...nor that it was a 10-year old thread!!**

Well...One in 10mm Auto of course.

This little "1014" weighs in at 33.4 oz fully loaded and shares carry duty with my Shorty45 mk2. Actually the Shorty spends more time on my nightstand than on my belt

Cheers

A Model 915.

It was just that right size. Small enough to carry easily and conceal well, big enough to fight effectively with.

Default 3953

I personally think the S&W 3953 is one of the best carry pistols ever made. I own three of them! My second choice on this list would probably be either the CS9 or 3913.

I voted 6906 because it's the only compact 3rd gen I own.
Compared to my 5906, 5946, and 4566, it's as light as a feather.

I'd rather carry the 8 shot .45 than the 12 shot 9, but the 6906 is so much lighter.

I think a 3913 would be better but I don't own one. So........

That said, I carry my SR9 (full size) more often than I do the 6906.
17+1. Thin. Light. More grip length for better control.
Longer barrel for more velocity.
100% reliable and a cheaper/easier to replace.
If I go sliding down the pavement, I'd rather it be my Ruger getting road rash, than my Smith.

Back to only 3rd gen choices. Mine is a 6906.
I'd love to have a DAO 30 or 59 series compact for carry, but haven't found any for sale at a price that would not put me on the losing side of a divorce case.

I originally said a 3913 and a 6906 as a close second..........and nothing has changed........but........an improved compact, light weight, high cap carrying 15 rounds is getting lots of shared holster time..
