I have considered this for one of my pistols. I've been impressed by the performance of the 357sig and the possibility of spending 150.00 dollars on a barrel instead of buying another gun appeals to me at the time.
Possible problems:
The pressure of the .357sig is significantly higher than that of the .40.(40,000psi compared to 35,000psi) I have been warned that this increased slide velocity would quickly wear out my alloy (Taurus PT101) frame.
Can this extra pressure be countered by a stiffer recoil spring?
The obvious answer would be to buy a "real gun" (S&W) that could handle the .357sig. If I decide to go this route, what Smith would you suggest?
Thanks,
Chad

You are going to need a Sig sooner or later. Get one now with both barrels.

Having watched several people go through misery with conversion barrels, I suggest getting a gun that can be had with factory conversion barrels. They work.
By the way, a lot of conversion barrels have been dropped by aftermarket manufacturers because they had too many complaints and returns.

I'd suggest an M&P40 or M&P40C. You can purchase an OEM .357 Sig barrel from S&W or a drop-in barrel from Storm Lake. The full size barrel is available now, and the compact is due out soon. The mags and the recoil spring assembly are OK for both calibers. By the way, Storm Lake makes many OEM barrels, including for the Sig 1911.

The recoil spring in my MP357c is the same as in my MP40c.
FWIW

CAlvis,
I have an HK Compact that came in .40 S&W and "aquired" a Bar-Sto .357 SIG barrel from Ebay.
Both use the same recoil spring, don't forget the .40 is a heavier round at a slower velocity,
similar ft/lbs of energy numbers.
Also have a .357 SIG for my Colt Delta Elite 10 m.m. using .40 S&W Colt magazines.
That one needs to use the hotter .357 SIG ammo's to push the 10 m.m. slide/spring back far enough to cycle.
Both are very, very accurate.
Regards,

Pistols built as .40 calibers can easily handle conversion to .357SIG. Usually all it requires is the barrel. Mags and recoil springs for the .40 also work for the .357SIG.

Thanks for all the input. I am becoming more and more aware of the elite-ness of this forum. I have not been able to get so many complete answers anywhere else.

Eagle Guns,
I have a GB link to the seller but it's a different barrel:
http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIte...Item=116965852
The phone number is (307)745-9425
I had to do a little grinding/polishing of the ramp area.
It prints a little lower than the 10 m.m., but that's to be expected given the higher velocity.
It is very accurate.
