I was gonna title this question "do you lube your barrel" but thought that might sound a bit risque

After shooting my new 9VE today I broke it down & gave it a pretty good cleaning. The S&W manual shows six spots to apply a bit of oil: four on the frame, the muzzle, and the top of the barrel opposite the lug.

The cleaning kit I have recommends putting a bit of lubricant on the mop, and running it through the barrel & then running a patch through to remove excess.

Do you all do the last step too, or just clean, dry, and oil the rails & barrel?

Thanks, and happy shooting!

A little wipe on/wipe off Tetra grease on the outer top of the barrel should do you.

Thanks conn. A follow-up: do you do anything for the magazines? I used both mags today & the top of each (the ramp?) where the round feeds from the mag into the chamber is a bit dirty, but the rest of the mag looks great, albeit after only one range session.

I always run a patch lightly soaked with oil thru my barrels then wait about ten minutes and run a dry patch thru.

I don't typically lube the inside of a barrel unless it's going in for long term storeage. I just got a T&E sample of Mili-tec and my fellow FI's swear by it. It bonds with the sufaces and is rec for barrels and bores.
Good luck

CRC "dry" silicone is what I use to clean magazines. It sprays on wet, cleans well, and drys quickly leaving only a fine white powder. It leaves the surface very slick and does not hold dirt.

Disassemble the magazines to clean.

Oiling your barrel should be standard procedure after cleaning it.

Like the directions say, run a wet patch or mop through bore, run dry patch through.

How would you like to get a new gun, shoot it for a while, only to find, when you went to shoot your old gun, the bore had rusted because you stripped it of oil last time you cleaned it?

Have you ever noticed how quickly bare metal, that is completely degreased, surface rusts? That surface rust, over years and years of shooting, cleaning, rerusting, is part of what leads to pitting and bore erosion.

I've had 2 Model 639 magazines I've had for 16 years and I've never considered cleaning them. Last month I put new magazine springs in them (didn't need them, but hey...) and could not believe how dirty the inside of the mags were. I actually swabbed the inside of the mags with some 12 gauge swabs and Hoppes #9 and it took many passes to get it clean.
