I've got a new-to-me Model 52. Nice pistol, came with 4 mags and weight. What I don't have is a barrel bushing wrench. Is that a must-have for these pistols? Can I get by without one?

Thanks,

S/W - Lifer

I have never used the bushing wrench. I shoot the Model 52 with the bushing hand tightened.

+1 on the hand tightening, but you may need it initially to loosen from the previous owner.

You may need if from the previous owner, but nearly all of what I have bought only one needed the wrench to break if free. Even the instructions say finger tight. The wrench is good for scratching things up.

I would think that the Briley bushings if too tight would make reassembly after field stripping and cleaning almost impossible,or should I be loosening the bushing to reinsert the barrel then finger tightening? Guidance would be apreciated. Thanks

Thanks, folks. I don't need a useless trinket to beat the gun up with. The 52 fun to shoot but I seem to do a lot better 6 inch K-38. Need more paratice, I guess.

A 12 point socket does a fine job, gives you something to depress the pin and and hold on with. (used w/o the wrench, of course)

I'm pretty sure it's 3/4" but I'm like most folks-just finger tighten only.
