Must say that I have fogetten the answer to this so I figured this would be the place to start..
I have obtained some Federal Hydra-Shok 147 +P 9MM ammo which I intend to shoot in a 5904, 6946, 547 and a 1911..I usually have Speer Gold Dot 124 +P and it has served me well for practice and when needed carry ammo..
Something in the back of my mind says that the heavier 9MM caused problems after long usage, with the alloy framed S&W's or was that just an urban legend?..

FWIW, I use Wolff extra power recoil springs in most of my S&W pistols (not in those with double recoil springs). I use a 16# (factory is 14#) in my 5903 and 915, and a 17# (factory is 15#) in my 669, 6904, two 6906s and two 3913s. I've never had a failure of any kind in any of the pistols listed above with standard 9mm (which is all I shoot). I would imagine they would afford you a little more protection from battering than factory springs while still offering reliable functioning with standard ammo.
Good luck,

Well, my old dept issued 5946's and we used the 147 grain Hydr-Shok's. I have about 5 boxes of it still in the safe, and I also have about 5 boxes of the Speer 124 grain. I never shoot it other then a mag or two in the gun when I bought them. Ammo has gotten way too expensive to shoot good stuff at paper.

My agency has used the +P 147s in alloy framed Sigs for years, with no problems. I wouldn't worry about using them.

I shoot the 3913TSW. The manual says 9mm +P is okay. I practice with 147 +P and 124 +P and carry 147+P+. I've experienced no problems to date and think if S&W condones +P, it ought not be a problem.

All5x;
Are you sure the HS are 147 gr +p? HS was the issue round in an agency I worked for and they were 147 gr. standard pressure. I know there is a 124gr +p, but not sure about the 147.

Please show me a headstamp of "147g +P" on a production ammo case.

I run 147 grain through my 3913, 915, and 910. No problems.
In the winter I switch to 147 grain Ranger as my carry ammo. Good stuff.
IIRC, some time back, there was much hand wringing about the over penetration of 147 grain 9mm, and a lack of expansion. I've not experienced either problem. Regards 18DAI.
