Is the 7rd CS9 mag the same one for the Pre-rail 3913TSW that takes 7rd mags? I see the CS9 ones all over, but not for the 3913TSW pre-rail.

Same magazine body, but different magazine butt plate when the original 3913TSW was being produced. The original TSW butt plate was wider and flatter, and was intended to fit the cutout at the bottom of the grip frame, making the magazine fit flush to the grip frame of the early TSW, on the sides as well as the bottom.

Here are some thumbnails of the standard curved butt plate on a CS9 magazine and an original 3913TSW butt plate on another magazine in the same gun. The TSW butt plate is the wide, flat one. In the image of the butt plates by themselves, the standard curved one is on the left and the TSW is on the right.

I have a friend who bought one of each CS9 & an original 3913TSW when they were first released. He preferred the curved butt plates on the magazines (for his little finger), and didn't care if the sides of the grips stick out over the butt plates a little, so I installed curved ones on all of his magazines and he used them interchangeably in both guns.

Thanks, that answered my question. I think I will just buy CS9 mags for my 3913TSW so they will come with the finger extension. That is the piece I wanted anyway. I just was not sure if the mag body was the same.

I called S&W a couple of years ago and was told they magazines were NOT the same.

I guess I got bad information. I never acted on it as I thought I had enough magazines.

I once asked about this myself, and it does depend on who you ask. Not everyone in customer service has a list of the differences between some parts & assemblies. Sometimes they can go ask someone else who does, though.

I was finally told that the same magazine bodies, same followers, same magazine springs & same magazine butt catch assemblies were shared by the CS9 & ORIGINAL 3913TSW magazines ... but they had different butt plates. That means they have a different part number for the assembled magazines.

On the other hand, the CS45 & ORIGINAL 4513TSW do NOT have the same 6-rd magazine bodies in one critical respect ... which is that the CS45 magazine tube has a secondary set of indentations added to the area of the feed lips (one on each side) to help prevent the displacement of the top round under the increased recoil of the .45 ACP round.

When it was determined that the second set of indentations was necessary to help prevent feeding problems in the hard-kicking little .45, they were added by hand to magazine bodies which had already been produced by a machine shop under contract to S&W. This was only a temporary 'fix', as the production of the magazines was then changed to add the indentations during regular manufacturing.

Sometimes figuring out which parts are used in which guns, or may be used in different guns, can be a challenge. I've had to have the folks back there call and ask someone to consult a production book, or call and ask an engineer, more than once.

The timing on this thread is perfect. I just picked up a new CS9 yesterday. The edge, of the curved butt plate, ends up right in the middle of my little finger. It needs to be about 1/4 inch longer, or gone. Actually it would be more comfortable if it wasn't there. Will the butt plate from a 3913 fit? If so, where can I buy the butt plate seperately?

I know my 3913 mags (8rd) will fit in my dads cs9 and shoot just fine.

If no one answers by Monday, I think I have the part number for the 3913 magazine butt plate and will post it here.

The standard flat 3913 butt plate is S&W part # 20081.

The CS9 also has another butt plate listed besides the curved one, which is part # 26342, but I can't picture it off the top of my head.

The part will cost about $3, as will the shipping and handling costs.

If you call and inquire about it, though, depending who you talk to they just might send you 1 or 2 of them at no charge. Just depends.

Ordered 2 of the above today. The guys said they were the flat base plates for the CS9.
$11.00 for 2 of them shipped. Should be here in about a week.

I tried to buy the bases or butt plates I guess and was told they were out of stock of the ones for the original 3913TSW 7 rounders for the curved finger grip part and the CS9 equivalent would not fit.

I never called back.

Update:

Well Shucks. Got to the mail box tonight, and had an envelope from Springfield, MA. I thought the flat butt plates for my CS9 had arrived.
When I talked to the guy on the phone, I told him I wanted the flat ones, and could he check and see if the #20081, for a 3913, would work on my CS9. He said we have flat ones for the CS9, and they are part number 26342. I said great I want 2 of them.
Well, 26342 is the curved Mag Butt Plate. Just like what I have, and just like Fastbolt said.
Guess I'll call them Monday, and see if we can try it again.

I also received a package today from S&W and I had ordered the curved ones to go on my early 3913TSW. Like Fastbolt showed, they are not as wide as my original flat ones, but they work.

Okay, here are the 3 butt plates which I've used on the CS9 - 3913 - original 3913TSW pistols.

The one on the left in the first thumbnail image (click to enlarge) is the original extra wide butt plate used on the original 3913TSW mags. Part # 26267, I believe. (Yes, it's really on one of my 8-rd 3913 mags.)

The middle one is the standard flat butt plate used on the 3913/908 series, and this one is pictured on one of my CS9 7-rd mags. Part # 20081.

The remaining one is the curved butt plate, also pictured on one of my 7-rd CS9 mags. Part # 10897.

This next image has the end butt plates reversed (don't ask), with the curved one on th left and the older TSW butt plate on the right.

Now, I don't have a MCS9S (Model CS9 Stainless) butt plate, Part # 26342, which is listed as an alternate CS9 butt plate in the Parts List (along with the curved butt plate). Sorry. I wouldn't recognize it if it flew in the window. Might be one of the other butt plates which has been renumbered for the CS9, and then it might not. Dunno.

The remaining image below just provides a simple comparison of the standard flat butt plate with the original 3913TSW extra wide butt plate from a different perspective.

Sometimes when you order a small magazine part it's possible for the wrong part(s) to be picked, or, the wrong part(s) to have ended up in the parts bins/boxes when someone goes and pulls the parts (and then fail to pay attention or notice). I've had both instances happen when I've ordered parts, it seems. I've had a 9mm butt plate mixed in with .45 butt plates, too.

Is it possible that the extra part number (26342) you have is a wide curved butt plate, or did they ever even make a wide curved one? That would be ideal for the 7 round 3913.

Never heard of a wide curved one for the original 3913TSW.

Since the primary idea of cutting the front grip was to make the gun as short as possible, for concealment, extending the butt plate would've been contrary to the idea behind the gun.

Just picked up two brand new CS9 magazines at the Allentown gunshow for $28 each. Took them home, tried them in my 3913tsw (first version 7 rnd) and they fit and work PERFECTLY. I like the curved butt plate instead of the flat one.

Default Hello

New to this forum. Looks like a lot of people that know their stuff. Looking forward into participating. Trying to figure out if the C9 will fit the 8 round stainless 3913TSW with either the curved or flat base plate.

It will, but the magazine will hang down and won't be flush with the grip. It's not too bad though.
