Default 6906 Gritty Trigger

I recently picked up a 6906 that was dirty but in pretty good condition. Brought it home and gave it a thorough cleaning, took it to the range and it functions flawlessly. Problem is that the DA trigger pull is feels WAY to haed plus it feels gritty. My 908 by comparison is very smooth. Since this is my first 6906 I didn't know if maybe they are just typically hard in DA.

Mark...........

"Hard" is a relative term for a trigger. My 6906 feels like a revolver in DA, nothing that seems out of the ordinary. I like the da action and carry it that way, hammer down-safety off.

Haven't noticed it feeling gritty, and the SA is really crisp.

My 6906 was fairly clean when I got it and the DA trigger pull is not gritty at all. Perhaps it just needs to be dry fired in DA to smooth things out.

One possible cause is burrs on the hammer strut. I have encountered a couple that way. The burrs rub against the inside of the hammer spring as the hammer moves rearward and causes that gritty feel. It's only noticeable in DA mode. A light filing of the hammer strut edges followed by a buffing with 220 or 320 grit paper usually takes care of it.

If its a used gun with a gritty trigger, its probably because there is GRIT in the trigger.

Take it apart as far as you feel comfortable, and then DROWN it in Break-Free.

Wipe off as much Break-Free as you can, and then blow it off with compressed air.

Dry fire it some, and put it where gravity will cause the Break-Free that is still drippy to run onto a paper towel.

Shoot it some.

Repeat process until gritty sensation is eliminated.

I've done this with great success on a number of second-hand, third-hand, umpty-somethingth-hand S&W's.
