Default Carrying a 4566 TSW, good IWB holster?

I know there are similar threads made about this in the past, but I've yet to find anything more recent. Perhaps there is some better advice out there, and good options for the 4566TSW as opposed to just the 4566 (not sure if the rail will limit my options)

I think I read somewhere that the Galco KT2488 King Tuck IWB Holster would work for the 4566, but has anyone used it with the tactical version? I've got one in my shopping cart on Amazon but haven't checked out yet.

There is a fellow on a forum for my state saying he could make a custom Kyndex one, but we're on opposite sides of the state and I can't very well drive to meet him and then drive back up there again later to retrieve the pistol/holster.

I like the look of the IWB Galco holsters, the design seems good. Doesn't have to be a Galco, but any good holsters that you know will work well with the 4566TSW?

Well, looking into this more it looked like any holster for the Sig P220/226/etc should work.

Picked up this holster and this belt. Will be here tomorrow. I'll report back.

I look forward to your report - I've got a 5906TSW that needs a good IWB. I've got a kydex OWB a local fellow made for me (which could have been a very nice holster; I'm going to get with him today and see if he'll remake it on his dime), but need an IWB as well.

It came in the mail a couple hours ago, snapped a few pictures:

It fits, but as you can see it doesn't fit perfectly. I've never owned a Galco or and Kyndex holster before so I can't compare it to anything. The good news is, I can hold the holster upside and shake it and the pistol doesn't slide out, though it does loosen a tad (not much). If you were wearing it and were hanging upside down, it'd be fine as it'd have the pressure of your body pressing against it to keep it in place.

As far as concealment goes, luckily I live in a state that allows Open Carry and no printing laws, because I've yet to find a position where the handle doesn't out a bit. Works fine with a jacket on, but it's hot outside. Maybe it'll be an excuse for me to get one of those nice lookin' S&W hammerless revolvers I've been eyeing for front pocket carry... :P

How does it slide in and out? Smooth or does it feel like it gets cought on something?

Kydex holster should feel like you are putting it in a plastic glove. Slides in with a little pressure (should not just fall in like in leather) and clicks in.

I tried my 4563tsw in my 5906 holster and while technically it fits to get it in or out i need to wiggle the gun as i draw/holster it. Not good.

It's not overly difficult to slide it in/out. It's snug, but not too snug.

What pains me is this, I've looked around for a holster specifically for the S&W 4566, or something close. Couldn't find a IWB one. Seemed like I'd need a custom one or settle for one designed for a different gun.

I get my Galco in the mail today. Browsing the web, you know what I find? A IWB holster from a new company, for the 4506! Cheaper too, lifetime warranty. Looks nice: S&W 4506 IWB Holster (Inside the Waistband)

<sighs>

I sent them an email and asked if they thought it'd work with my 4566TSW, I'll update the thread when I get a response.

A holster for a 4506 should work for a 4566, yeah? The pistols are the same shape/size, correct?

WOW, a 4566 in a IWB. Did you try to sit down ? Thats has to be like trying to hide a dinosaur with a napkin (saw on the Beretta forum about CCing the 92) You need to start your search for a 4513 or look into a XDS in .45 . There's times when I think my 3913nl is to big and heavy. Most times I have my bobbed hammer 360pd about 15ozs loaded in my pocket. It's nowhere near as fun to shoot as the 4566tsw but a heck of allot easier to carry. Just a old guys opinion.

Yeah, was sitting earlier. Leaning more towards one side than the other. I unfortunately sit down all day long, work from home. I don't my permit to carry yet (LTCH) but that can take months, so I don't plan on actually carrying outside the house yet.

By the time I do get my LTCH I'll likely have a more practical carry pistol.

For a pistol that large, you want the IWB to be THIN. Get either Ken Null of Resaca, Georgia for horsehide, or Paul Giannaula of PJ Holster for kydex.

I like 45ACP handguns and usually carry a S&W4513TSW, early model no rail or a Ruger P345. Every now and then I also carry my S&W645 just because I like it. I use a High Noon IWB tuckable for each of these and with a t-shirt and leather vest they are well hidden. The leather is fairly thin but that keeps the bulk down for easier concealment. I sit down a lot when carrying since I spend a lot of time on my Harley, helps explaign the vest. Jim.

Just to update everyone. I did finally get my license to carry, and I took a nice 2 mile walk last night with my 4566TSW discreetly tucked inside my waistband with my Galco Holster. It wasn't that bad. It was a chilly night so I had my coat on... but I think it'd be concealable without too much effort even in a long t-shirt...

Come summertime though I'll need something slimmer and more practical, but for now, this will work. Luckily my state has no law against printing, and I can open carry if I want to, but I try to keep things discreet.

Default Andrews McDaniel II

I carry a full-sized E-series 1911 with rail in an Andrews McDaniel II all day comfortably. Standing, seated, driving, hiking around, etc. I certainly notice it's there -- it is a pretty heavy, all-steel pistol, after all -- but it rides tight to the body, and stays secure. I'm sure it would work well for a 4566TSW.

At the end of the day, I feel like I could certainly go longer, if needed, unlike some holsters I've had that I just couldn't wait to get off. The McDaniel II is by far the best IWB I've ever used. The folks at Andrews gunleather are great people to work with, too!

Never much cared for IWB, for my build I find them very uncomfortable. Now inside the belt on the other hand works very well for me. I use a Jakslide almost exclusively. On days that I'm doing a lot of sitting/driving/riding, I orient it cross-draw. Other days when I'm going to be on my feet for the most part I go strong-side carry. It's very convenient to be able to use the same kit with either carry method and a 4566 easily vanishes under a t-shirt.

Cheers
Bill

Those McDaniel II holsters look quite nice actually. Would be nice if they made a version that could carry an extra mag too.

White Hat does a great holster for the third gens. They even do a great Basemax IWB that is super cheap but super great if you don't need any bells and whistles.
