Question Sw40v help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Test fired a SW40V fora buddy and found this among other problems like the trigger was acting strange. Hard to describe. But Ill try. Trigger would not pull it was like it was hung up. By holding the trigger and pulling the slide to the rear it would reset and work fine. See the below pics for the other problem . Bulging primers(blaser brass) and split cases (wolf). It also would fail to feed on the 8th round almost everytime with both 10 round mags I suspect the springs are bad in the mags and not so much worried about that. The pics concern me.

Keep shooting that gun and it's going to blow up. Four rounds of an obvious over pressure condition would indicate to me that the barrel is most likely seriously f'ed up, either leaded really badly or damaged in some manner, maybe some idiot hogged out the chambers with a dremel trying to fix that "feed" issue. I would strongly suggest that you send it back to S&W and let them fix whatever hack job has been done on that pistol.

I agree. If you dont send it back, it'll eventually kaboom and can seriously injure somebody nearby...it does look as if the barrel or chamber is too large or deformed to support the rounds properly.

Thanks that is the conclusion I came to as well. Scary thing is we fired about 90 rounds before I noticed a round lying on my deck split I was too buisy trying to figure out why it would not feed the 8th round. At that point the shooting was over and I posted these pics. I advised my buddy to take it back to the guy he got it from and have him send it back to S&W. He bought it used from a non FFL. I dont trust where the gun came from.

Thanks for this thread. My new out the box Model 410 did basically the same thing last Saturday.1st chance I've had to shoot the gun. Only I used the 5 pack 11 round mags purchased from Buds. Was shooting Winchester 165 grain FMJs. Didn't notice the casings but at least once per mag the trigger would not engage so I would eject the round and the gun worked fine on the next round. I better call customer service tomorrow.

Dont do that. Good chance you might not see it again. Call up S&W or LSG Manufacturing personally (you or your friend) and they'll tell you how to send it in for repairs at no cost to you.

Can only add to whats been said already.....Call S&W immediately and let THEM deal with it.! It has a LIFETIME WARRANTY so the fact that you bought it used does not matter. This is a HUGE SAFETY issue and be sure to tell them that. Ask them to make sure that it meets or exceeds ALL S&W Standards for safety before returning it to you. They WILL take GREAT care of you!

Spoke with a rep at S&W just a while ago describing my Model 410's trigger failure to reset. He stated to not attempt to fire the gun now and a shipping label was on the way.

Hopefully S&W will fix the barrel problem. I dont know if they will fix it if it was goofed up by the user. Most likely they will just replace the barrel. Also the trigger might be acting strange if there is a large amount of pressure blow back from the split cases. Saw this same problem in a glock. Someone tried to dremel the chamber to a high shine and goofed it. Split cases and so forth. Pressure was blowing down upon every fired shot. It can be felt by the trigger finger, and apparent pressure marks on the top of the mags and following rounds. I am sure that S&W will fix another persons mistake.

Default My new SW40VE problems

I purchased a brand new SW40VE approx 4 months ago at a gun show. It has only ever had maybe 20 rounds fired through it. Today when I tried to shoot it the trigger is acting funny. Hard pull and u must pull it all the way back as far as it will go before it will fire and sometimes you have to release the trigger and pull it all the way back again before it will fire. So I got out the owners manual and it told me how to take the slide apart to clean and oil it. I thought id do that and see if somehow that would help it. When putting the slide back on I somehow managed to get the barrel and or recoil spring hung up with the slide 2/3rds of the way on and now its jammed there. I cant get the slide off or back in place plus Ive got the trigger problem anyone have any suggestions?

Can't offer much help as to how you jammed up the slide/spring.

I had a similar complaint about the WAY WAY too long trigger travel with my Sigma. I was sending it back for warranty service due to a faulty barrel and also told the 'smith that I was disappointed with the trigger travel.

After replacing the barrel, the 'smith also adjusted the trigger. Still heavy - which is okay by me- but the travel is much shorter. Until adjusted, it was uncomfortable to shoot given how far the trigger had to travel and how unnatural it was to sqeeze one's finger on the trigger so far back in the trigger guard.
