Buy it if it's in good or excellent condition. Do not hesitate.

I am buying a Model 41. Does anyone know if they have any problem with any 22LR ammo. also would you get the 5.5" bbl or 7" I am using it for target shooting only and have arthretic hands. I have other 22 Semi autos and they will not fire some 22 ammo.

Here is mine, made in 2002. I didn't care for the stock thumb rest grips so I changed to Herrett grips.

Here's mine, an early one with the long barrel, compensator, and cocking indicator. Shipped in May, 1972. Custom case, made in Okinawa.

Starting a new topic would probably get a better response than posting in the middle of an ongoing photo thread.
There are some people in this forum who have more kowledge about the Model 41 in their pinky than I do in my entire body.
I would try to do a search here in the semi-auto forum and go through the threads at rimfire central's smith & wesson forum.
If you do a google search for s&w model 41 maintenance one of the results will have detailed instructions with photos.
Standard velocity ammunition is what I have seen recommended. I am very new to the Model 41, but CCI Standard Velocity seems to work well in the pistol.
I don't know if the 5.5" or 7" barrel would be better for arthritic hands. I like the 7" better so far. It's a little lighter & I seem to shoot better with it. I like the 5.5" look better & want to like it better.

If I can only have 1 barrel it would be the 7". That's just me. I do have the 7" and a 5.5" Clark BO
start with one. see how you like it. you can always purchase the other

Sorry for he not so good picture, walking hurts a lot right now and I'm doing as little as possible.
I bought it used in '69, and have won a few matches it, I love it.

Lot of nice 41's. Always nice to see them. My father never bought anything, but the best with his guns. It was a pleasure getting this one and others. My dad always knew how much I love his guns, guns in general. I love to shoot.

I just joined the forum and found this thread in a search. I will post some pictures of my 41 as soon as I take them. I was wondering about a production date as it is much lower than those shown in this thread. The serial number is #46xx.
Thanks for the help,
Rick

Here's one...
...I picked up last week. From the serial number, it appears to be ca. 1992.
Waiting on a new grip screw from S&W to replace the missing one.

Thanks Tom. My father had good taste. I also have his S&W Model 27 also from 1957 or 58. Great hand guns. I have a few more S&W's as well. Great Gun Company as well.

Here's my baby, S&W letter states it was sold to the Marine Corp, Ny in 1962.
She still shoots like a champ, and I shoot her every chance I get.

If one is good two is better! Both with Hogue target grips, one Kingwood, the other Tulipwood. Clark barrel and Millet red dot, plus extra 5" field and 7 inch target barrel. My wife and I use them for Bianchi matches...

It lettered as 7-3/8, but there are NO U.S. property marks on it anywhere.
I am unsure as to it's past, maybe there was a Marine PX in NY that it was sold to, all I know is the letter said "sold to Marine Corp, NY, NY.

WBW2 - Thanks for response. Generally if sold for a shooting team. usually military marked. By asking, we continue to build a history of info. With your SN range of 38XXX it is in the period where AF and Army were buying for competition.
