I have seen this question posted on another forum, and I have asked it myself. The operators manual is sort of silent on the subject, but does say under loading “If you wish to restore the magazine in your pistol to its full capacity, rotate the de-cocking safety lever to the down (safe) position and leave it in that position.” Then it tells you to remove the magazine to add a round. That would lead me to believe that the lever is in the fire position when pulling back on the slide.

Anytime I load my 4506, other than reloading at the range, I leave the safety de-cocker in the down or safe position and allow the hammer to cycle. It works fine and for me adds a level of safety that I like.

Yes, the hammer will follow the slide down, no harm no foul.
