Questions on 4040 springs & grips
I just got a real clean 4040 and when I took it apart I noticed 2 recoil spring on the rod, 1 larger diameter "green" spring and a small diameter "black/blued" spring inside the "green" one,,,,,,,,,,,,,why 2 springs?
Also I want to go with the hard plastic S&W grips with this gun what model grips will fit?
Any idea as to what these would fit? (is there a chance they would fit a CS40?)

I just went to the S&W site and the parts list has a "inner" and "outer" spring, so I guess it belongs there, but I have never seen this on my collection of 1st, 2nd & 3rd gen autos.
So why is it needed???

Dual recoil springs allow for variable resistance - usually lighter at first, and then stronger toward the end of the cycle to help decrease frame battering.
I think the 4040 uses the same grips as a 3913.

The same dual springs are used on most of the compact 40 & 45 third generation guns. Your grips are the same as 3913s' except the early TSWs' that had the cut out grip and short mag.

My 4040 is one of my favorite pistols. The trigger pull is perfect and it is a lightweight and accurate gun. As mentioned it uses the same grips as most 3913 models. Enjoy your pistol.

Thanks for all for the answers! (Sure is a wealth of knowledge on this site!)
I did a search and found a thread showing the 3913 grips on a 4040,,,,,,,,now the big question would be do the 3953TSW grips fit a 3913 OR a 4040, If any one has tried this please chime in.
Thanks again!

They should fit, I don't recall the 3953 coming with the short grip of the early 3913('98-99)TSW.
