There were some previous posts on the old website that had pictures and pictures of aftermarket weights. Do a search for M52 barrel weights.

Here are 2 photo's one with the early ampersand and one with the standard ampersand.
There are a few aftermarket target weights made, if you purchase an original, you would have to fit it to your frame or you could damage the finish mounting it.
I prefer shooting with the weight, it does make a difference. If you wish to purchase aftermarket the best one is made by Tim Bell, he is on GB.
IF you want to spend the extra money to get the original, I have a few spares.

I bought one of Mr. Bell's reproductions and was very satisfied. He is a good man to deal with. I think the weight itself aided accuracy if that's possible with a Model 52.

I went through gunbroker.com to deal with him. I just looked it up and the following is the URL:

Smith & Wesson S&W Model 52 Target Weight : Collectible Parts & Accessories at GunBroker.com

Good luck.

He also makes a excellent Model 41 replica weight for the 7 3/8th inch barrels that are set up for them. I'm still trying to set aside funds to purchase a set of them. I have his replica model 52 weight and it is excellent, I actually think it's better made than a original one I had back in the mid 70's.

Default Update on barrel weight

Since these posts are a little dated I would like to state that Tim Bell is still in the business of making the weights for the 52-1 and 52-2.
I have ordered one today . I have also talked to him on the phone and he is a true gentleman .

Default S&W model 52 barrel weight

I saw your post dated last year about the Tim Bell counterweight. I've looked high & low looking for a way to contact Tim. Can you please give me his e-mail address or his phone number. I'm ready to take possession of a mint M52-2 with an A serial number. I would like to find out more about the counterweight. Thanks Harry Westervelt

I'm not positive but I believe only the 52 and 52-1 have the slots milled in the frame for the counter weights. If you have a 52-2 then you won't be able to use the weight.

Since you mentioned the gun being "mint", be aware that installing the weight may scratch the frame.

br25004x4 Think you mean - the 52 (no dash) is not cut for weight - The 52-1 and 52-2 are cut for weight.

Actually, the 52 is the one without the slots.....the 52-1 and 52-2 both have them. Here's my 52-2 with the weight and some of its favorite food.

The weight makes the gun even easier to score with.

I attempted to install the factory weight on my 52-2, but it would slide out of place when fired. I only tried to secure it a few times, and noticed it had marred the underside of the frame as it came loose. Fortunately, that damage isn't visible with the weight installed. I was lucky enough to find a nice gunsmith at the S&W warranty repair facility who did it for free while I waited-- it only took him a few minutes. He said the trick was to put a piece of lead shot in the indentation, and then tighten the screws to the frame -- have left the weight installed, and it has worked like a charm for 20 years.
