Default Where to find history of Model 945?

I am going to write a review of the Performance Center 945 pistol for a local gun magazine.

Where could I find information on the history of this pistol?

Who designed it? For what purpose? What were the main design goals? Explanations for all the technical details and choices made in the design. etc

Thanks in advance for all your help.

I cannot recall the gun magazine name with the first (prototype) 945 that came out. it was somewhat ugly lines and I have never seen a pic of someone owning a prototype.

I may still have that gun mag, but one slight problem. We are currently doing a home remodel and everything is in boxes and I have not a clue where it would be at.

It may be awhile when I would come across the mag, if I still have it.

it was not Guns & Ammo or similiar. Maybe Gun Review.

here is one article, but not the article I am talking about

I'm a big fan of the PC945 model, and have a number of magazines with articles about it -- articles that typically include its history. If I can track one or more down amidst the piles of old gun mags I have, I'll scan it in and email it to you. Don't hold up your article for me, though...those piles are, yikes, kinda big.

I note your email isn't provided on your contact page (not sure if that's even a feature anymore w/ the new board), and I don't believe the email function on this board allows attachments. Can I get your email address?

Here you go.... Findarticles.com is a great place for finding articles on just about everything: S&W'S enduring masterpiece: approaching its 10th birthday, the Model 945 has a devoted coterie of fans. And it's not a 1911 | Guns Magazine | Find Articles at BNET

Cick on that link above, it is the Nov 2007 GUNS magazine article by Massad Ayoob.

Also.. do a Google search on keywords like " Smith Wesson 945 articles" or "Smith Wesson 945 reviews", that is what I did to find info when I was trying to make a decision to buy one... which I did and very happy that I did.

The May/June 1999 issue of American Handgunner magazine also has a feature article, I still have it and can scan you a copy of the article if the Guns magazine article doesn't have the info you are looking for.

Sasu, perhaps I should just let Gunhacker take care of you. The two articles he references in his post are two of the three I clearly recall having. I'll try, however, and see if I can't pin down that third article, but the two he indicates are the best of the bunch. I *think* the third was in Handguns Magazine, but, again, I don't recall it being quite as good as the other two.

I also think if you call S&W and tell them what you are doing then they may personally help you, they seem to be very good guys up there
