S&w 645
I recently traded my well used S&W 4006 straight across for this S&W 645 and five magazines.
My plan is to use this gun as a duty piece since it is on our approved list and it will shoot anything I feed it and it does so rather accurately. Actually, as well or better than my Springfield TRP, Sig 220 or my Kimber Custom II.
The questions I have are pretty simple... so here we go...
How hard is it to find some rubber grips for this piece? I know Hogue makes wood grips for this gun, but I am looking more for rubber since this will be a duty gun and not a casual shooter.
Is there any way to smooth up the single action trigger at all? The double action trigger is actually pretty nice. It's smooth with only a little stacking about 1/4th of the way through the pull. But the single action trigger is gritty with a fair amount of over-travel.
And lastly, how hard do you think it will be to find a holster for this gun?
Thanks
Drew

What kind of holster would you like? Right hand vs. left hand, Kydex, nylon, leather, etc.? I'm asking because I have a nice Safariland SSIII - 070 right handed duty holster with the black, basketweave finish and level 3 security. It was made for the Smith & Wesson 4506, but may likely work well with your 645. I've advertised this holster on this forum in the past. $35.00 shipped in CONUS. let me know if you're interested.

I would take you up on that holster, but I am left handed. Sorry.

Looks like a couple of nice left handed holsters for the 4506 on e-bay. I'm not positive if the 645 will fit, but I think that it will. Search for "wesson 4506" and / or "S&W 4506". Good luck.

Just a note on the 645 (I have one). The screw that goes through the right-hand safety has a tendency to work loose. A drop of blue Lok-Tite should fix that. The single action trigger pull is complex and would probably be hard to tune. I don't like the take-up and over-travel before and after the letoff. If you have a fleshy trigger finger, you can get a bit of flesh caught behind the trigger after letoff.
On the plus side, the gun is completely reliable and will even feed empty cases from the magazine. All I did to mine was polish the feed ramp, and that was probably unnecessary. I bought mine new many years ago, and got a Galco pancake holster for it. I don't know if they are still making them.
Hope this helps.

I had been carrying a Glock on duty for the last 5 years or so. Started looking at other systems, particularly the Springfield Armory xd45. Saw a used 4506 in a local gun store and bought it on impulse because it felt good. Took it to the range and was hooked. I lucked up and found a level 2 holster in a bargain bin at the local uniform place. Waiting on magazines and I'll be carrying it on duty. Definitely on over-looked gem.

When you buy your holster make sure it will accept the hook trigger guard of your 645. Some of the 4506 holster will and some won't.

Uncle mikes #5 holster works for these, although it may not be a suitable duty holster. I have one in both right and left and they work fine for IDPA and steel matches. ( I have the left as I am trying to learn to shoot left handed...)
Nice thing about these holsters is my 945, and 5904 also fit nicely.

PM sent. I have a set of Pachmayrs for a 645 that you can have. I could probably help you with a right hand holster but not a left hand. Sorry.
