Default Pawn Shop Find

As promised, here are the photos of my $225 OTD pawn shop find. Smith & Wesson Model 439. She has some honest carry wear, which, it is fixing to get a whole lot more once I put it in my carry rotation. Very accurate. With help from other forum members, she left S&W in 1981.

Well, if you are gonna steal a gun from some poor pawn shop, I reckon that's a good one.

Well done.

Well, that is just a wonderful find - congratulations. The 439 was my first semiauto, and my heart still skips a beat whenever I see one - silly as that may be. Yours is really a nice one, and that price is just amazing. Have fun with it!

BTW, in terms of standard-pressure ammo: I carried 115-gr STHPs and 115-gr Fed BPs in mine back in the '80s . . . I don't think you'd go wrong with either of those, though I'd probably lean toward the BPs as classic, reliable, and amazingly accurate.

I've always thought that the 39/439 models were among the most beautiful semi-autos made. That looks to be in fairly good shape.

+1 on that. Classic design that S&W will never return to. The S&W 39 is as classic as the 1911 design and the Browning Hi-Power. The 439 is closer to the true 39 than my 639

Thumbs up

Nice find. I like the looks, it has character, load it and leave it be. Great carry sidearm.

That is a really nice find. Do yourself a favor and install a new recoil and firing pin spring. They are easy to get and install and you will know that they are new. It's the smart thing to do. I would buy all I could find at that price. You will enjoy shooting that one.
