1076 trigger question....
Just finished my second range trip with my recently acquired 1076.
Starting to get a feel for it and seems to shoot well with American Eagle & Georgia Arms FMJ ammo and my lead reloads.
What's odd however is that the trigger reset isn't consistent. Kind of hard to describe but it seems to vary from shot to shot. Sometimes a very short crisp break, other times mushy, some times with a fair amount of low resistance free travel before tightens up and breaks. Anyone else experience this with the 1076 or similar guns? Something wrong with the trigger/sear or just the nature of the beast?
Thanks for your input!

That was not my experience with the 1076 that I had.

Not my experience with a 1026 (5" version), either. If it were mine, I'd check for internal cleanliness first, and if that's not the issue, see a gunsmith or S&W.

I have a lightly used 1026 and a very heavily used 1076 (Kentucky State Police Contract). Neither exhibit the inconsistent trigger reset you describe.
If you're going to have it looked at by a gunsmith, I wouldn't take it to just anyone. I'd either send it back to the factory or to Novak's who, second to S&W, have the most experience with these 3rd Gen pistols.

My 1076 SA is clean, crisp, slack is about 2#, then up to a clean break at 6#. Consistent to within a couple of ounces.

This is similar to my results. I recently tested the trigger pull of both my 3rd Gen pistols using my digital trigger pull scale. The results shown are the average of 5 pulls each.
Model 1026
Single action trigger pull average: 6 lb 14 oz
Double action trigger pull average: 10 lb 15 oz
Model 1076
Single action trigger pull average: 6 lb 8 oz
Double action trigger pull average: 11 lb 10 oz

My 1076 doesn't have the problem you described. I second having S&W take a look at it. Nice shooting by the way! What was your distance?
