Question S&WMP40, Glock 27 or Springfield XD 40 3 inch barrel

I am looking for a CCW and are down to the Glock 27, MP40c and the Springfield XD. All the mfg say thiers are better then the other. I would like some insite on these 40 cal. There is a gun show here in Orlando next week and I would like to try to pin something down.

I carry a xd, like the gun Shoots good have not had any issues with my subcompact my lessons have been with my service model ammo wise. I love the xd with the pierce mag ext. that make the weapon IMOP. There all good choices its what fit good I really like the crossbreed holster (supertuck) the glock will eat just about all ammo the xd does not like s&b or blazer alum. I just bought my first m&p pro series
Good luck.

You have 3 equally great guns on your list. I'm becoming more and more a fan of the M&P Series, so I'd list 'em in this order of my personal preference: M&P, Glock, XD. Have fun shopping!

Agreed, all very good models. It comes down to personal preferences, which for me: M&P40c, XD40, many other weapons, G27

From my own shopping the M&P has a much better feel than the Glock and is second nature to aim, the 40c is on my hip. I didn't get much time with the XD, not too bad though.

I do not have it in 40SW but do have the MP 45 , XD45 and a XD 9MM sub compact. I have a Glock 17 and had the Glock 22 which I sold as I did not care for the recoil in 40.
I really like the XD sub compacts with the extra capacity mag that makes it a whole other gun. It blends right in and not something sticking out the bottom. If I get another 40 it will be that one.

Of the 45's I prefer the XD but I do not think you can go wrong with any of them. What feels best to you and price if that matters. Mt MP 45 has the external safety which is something extra if that's important to you.

Thanks for all the good feedback. I will just have to hit the gun show and handle all of these to see what works best for me. I am however looking for the extra capacity that I can get from the Glock or the Springfield

I have both the XD-9 and the XD-45 and love them both. Got a Veridians green laser for the rail that interchanges between the 4" guns. I have not yet had a single FTF or jammed cartridge with more than 5000 down the barrel on both. I actually prefer the XD-45 to a $1000 4'" Kimber 45 that I own...just"fit" my hand better somehow.

I haven't bothered to shoot the subcompact XD, only the standard size models. I know a couple of guys who carry subcompact XD .40's, though. They seem somewhat bulky for a subcompact but they suit the owners. No functioning issues of which I've been made aware, either.

I own a G27 and a M&P 40c.

The M&P 40c magazine holds 10 rounds, or 1 more round than the others as long as standard magazines are being used.

Having seen some instances where guys carrying G27's loaded with G23 magazines experienced feeding issues with the G23 mags, but not with the 9-rd G27 mags, I prefer to use standard magazines dedicated to the specific model.

The M&P 40c feels noticeably more balanced and comfortable in my hand.

The G27 & M&P 40c are both more than accurate enough from a practical perspective in my opinion.

The felt recoil and controllability of the M&P 40c is a bit better, in my opinion, than the G27 ... but both still share the recoil management issues involved in shooting a diminutive .40 S&W pistol.

FWIW, both have 'better' recoil management characteristics than a Kahr MK40 I once handled and fired for more than a couple of boxes of ammunition - which is all-steel and therefore weighs more - and which also holds less ammunition. Interesting combination of attributes.

I think the M&P 40c has a bit less felt recoil and muzzle whip than my 4040PD, FWIW.

I would not presume to recommend one over the other to someone else, but would recommend someone interested in them find a way to shoot examples of each with ammunition representative of what they actually planned to carry.

I originally suspected that ordering the M&P 40c would probably influence me to 'retire' my G27 to my gun safe as far as it remaining an active choice for my retirement CCW needs. While I'm pleased with it, overall, I was a bit surprised to find that it didn't prove to be the 'replacement' for the G27. Instead, I find I still enjoy training & practicing with both. Go figure. I can't really put my finger on exactly what it is that makes me inclined to keep both of them as 'active' choices ... with 3 of my other .40 S&W pistols remaining in the safe ... but there it is ...

Personally, however, the .40 S&W is not my first choice when it comes to small pistols dedicated to defensive carry. I still have a distinct personal preference for 9mm pistols in this regard.

I'd suggest that the list you've made contains some good quality choices and it remains for you to decide which one best meets your desires and needs and is best suited to your skills.

The field-stripping procedures for the XD and M&P may be something which offers you an extra consideration when it comes to safety.

Clickable thumbnails which can enlarged a couple of times; M&P 40c & G27; medium insert on M&P and standard mag bases on both:

I carry my M&P40c on a regular basis. It conceals very well. It is extremely well made, very comfortable in the hand (aided by the interchangeable backstraps), 100% reliable, and accurate.

I've sold both my XD and Glock.

These are my three 'candidates' so far, as well.

Owl1024:JMO but, if possible, go rent, handle and shoot them all. The answer will become clearer. Don't buy something just because there's going to be a gun show in town.
