Default Pc 4516

I asked about the PC 4516 some time back. My friend and fellow member SW CQB 45 knew someone who had worked for S&W and had one.

Since the SWCA is here now, and we have experts on S&W's I thought I'd ask again.

The product code is 170112. It is listed as 4516, 7-shot, DA.

Anyone have more details on this pistol? Anyone own one? Got pics?

Was this a "one off" like my CQB prototype, or was there a limited run?

Any guess as to how many and what distributor? Thanks! Regards 18DAI.

18, all I remember about this model

Shotgun News (early to mid 90s), there was a dealer who would alway advertise all all steel 4516 Prototype. IIRC, they wanted 800+ $$$$. I do not recall the name of the business. Maybe AZ or West side of US.

One of my Glock Armorers/Firearms Instructors (about 5 years ago) used to work for SW. She bought a 4516 Prototype from the factory at a ridiciously low price, when she worked for SW. IIRC it was still NIB when I met her.

I tried to contact her last year or prior as she works for Federal Training Facility (FLETC). I may still have an email address but her name has slipped my memory (46).

Let me try again, but I have been so busy with CRIME and the admin side, it has me bogged down.

If I had to guess, there are going to be very few of these and were only offered to SW employees and if there is one floating on the market, it will be expensive.

good luck with your search

18, there is a SW forum member who used to work for SW, but I have not seen him on the board for sometime.

He works for Pistol Dynamics.

I cant remember his handle.

maybe he can shed some additional info on this model.

WES (I think was partial)

WESMAN. his last post was may 09.

I just went through my entire email inventory and nothing related to FLETC. I dont recall her name. If I get time I will call FLETC.

CQB,
I have not "seen" WESMAN around here in some time. He knows quite a bit about 3rd generation PC guns. I think he is a member on another board I frequent. I'll try and PM him there.

Maybe Grinder or Ted1trading have heard of this piece.

Hard to believe that on a S&W board with over 5000 active members and now a SWCA contingent, that you and I are the only folks who know about this gun.

Oh, I think I finally scored one of those melonite 4566's that the US Marshall sevice used. I'll know tommorow......maybe I'll start a thread on those. Regards 18DAI.

18, I dont recall any "PC" name associated with this piece.

I recall 4516 Prototype only.

I never saw a pic of this piece.

If I get time this week, I will try and call FLETC.

Sorry 18DAI, I've never seen one or heard of one except the SCSW reference.

Ted E Bear - No, not a 4516-1. I have the 4516-3. The 4516 I'm seeking info and pics of is a Performance Center 4516.

The Performance Center pistols are (sometimes) modified, or custom versions if you will, of standard production guns.

Ex: My PC 4563 CQB prototype is basically a 4563TSW, without the stupid rail, with a 1.25" shorter match grade barrel with Briley bushing, a smoother trigger, and a beautiful matt black finish.

I'm trying to find out what "enhancements" the PC did to the 4516.

IMHO, the 4516 is a superb carry gun, as is. I am simply curious about what the PC did to improve upon it. Regards 18DAI.

18,

When you get this piece of unobtainium hunted down, you can start on the fabled 1016! Good luck!

Actually, back some time ago, a member here posted a photo of the prototype 1016. As I recall it was one of one.

I don't recall the details, and not being a 10mm fan did not archive that thread. Maybe one of the 10mm fans can post the details.

As an interesting tid bit (which admittedly I've yet to verify) I was told by someone who recently retired from S&W, while researching my one of one prototype 45, that S&W had "emptied the vault out in late 2006". My source claimed that "many one of one, prototypes, and small production run leftovers were dumped out into the market".

He surmised that my pistol was one of those. I don't recall the disposition of the fabled 1016.....maybe Grinder knows Regards 18DAI

18,

Friday, I placed a call to FLETC.

I got transferred several times and ended up getting transferred to HR.

I left a message and hope to hear something on Monday.

This struck a memory with me. The last time you brought this up, I did find the instructor at FLETC, she called me and was suppose to send me some photos.

Never got them and due to my workload, plain ol forgot about it.

Default Apologies to all for "necroposting"

I've brought this thread back from the dead because of all the recent 4516 interest on the board and a post from my friend and fellow member Catshooter.

Since I started this thread we have had many new members join us. Some were even employed at S&W during the time period this Performance Center 4516......and some other VERY interesting 45 compact prototypes were being designed, made and tested.

Perhaps someone will share some of their experiences with these guns and enlighten us on this particular "unicorn".

In any case, some of the early posts themselves may be of some interest to newer members. Regards 18DAI
