Thought you might like to see under the grips to view the frame mounted decocker. Cleaning is going to happen tonight.......didn't look this dirty when I took the pictures.

This gun looked large until I compared against my 6906. The 6906 is thicker with the Houge grip on it.

The first pic shows both guns lined up with the 6906 on top to show overall lengths in each direction. Look close there are two guns in this pic.

I also to a pic from the end to show the thickness.

Thanks for posting those very nice comparison photos. The 4576 will conceal easier than the 6906 but it weighs a lot more.

Congratulations! Looks great!

The 3rd Gen frame-mounted decocker models are my favorites of the lot. I own a 1026 (5" barrel) and 1076 (4.25" barrel).

I have one of them big boys, too. According to Roy Jinks at S&W, they made 1,389 units. They don't come along too often . . .

How come the frame mounted decocker models never took off? I think they would have given Sig a good run for their money.

How are these unique compared to the DAO models such as the 4586?
Are they not DAO?

This gun is different from the 4586 in that after each shot the hammer remains fully cocked as a traditional double action pistol. The decocker is only used to decock the hammer.

After the hammer is decocked, the trigger can be pulled and the hammer will retract and the gun will fire. This gun does not have a safety.

These two guns have got me back to the S&W family of pistols. Don't miss my Glocks.

My guess is the S&W frame mounted decockers feel flimsy when engaged. Compared to any Sig Saur, the S&W's are lacking. I have owned four 1076's and two 1026's and none of them felt anywhere near as solid as my Sig's. If S&W had invested a little more time in the design of their decocker model, it may have fared better. I won't own another one again. JMHO.

Thanks guys,
i am just about to trade for one.
It'll be my first double action 45 .

I too wonder why they're not more popular. All i can guess is they were competing against double stack hi capacity ?

I like that the decocker gives tactile feedback that it's engaged - pushes back on your thumb as hammer comes to rest on it. I always wince when hear that "click" on other guns, expecting a "bang".

Recoil is a lot more agreeable than my Lightweight Commander.

Now i need a couple more magazines...

It is a little startling to drop the hammer on a loaded gun with the slide mounted decocker, until you get used to it. I have a 1076 & like sniper47 said S&W could have made it better, but I don't mind it. What I do miss about the slide decockers is that if you want to load the gun, & chamber a round, with the decocker down you can safely (& confidentially) chamber one & not have to worry about an accidental discharge, like when you're inside.

Post a picture once you get it.

Will post one as soon as learn to use that newfangled electronic camera.

Plain unmodified 4576 . Got another clip at show Saturday.
