Default 3rd gen manufacture dates

I'm fairly new to the board I'm looking for info on how to determine the manufacture dates of 3rd gen pistols and I guess first and second ones two. Is there a definitive reference book with this info in it?
I've owned few of the 1,2,&3 gen guns over the years and liked them. I just never managed to hang on to them as I needed to sell'em to buy the newest. Now that I own an M&P40 & MP9 and several Glocks, I've really become impressed again with how good these earlier pistols are in comparison to the latest and greatest. So I've begun my collection of Smith autos, I've picked up three in the last month.
A pristine 39-2 A203XXX, 5904 TVU0XXX, 5906 TYT3XXX. Next on the list are 3913, anything in .40 cal and .45 cal.

So far, I've really enjoyed reading all the threads on the forum, Thanks for any help! Ron

With S&W nothing is definate but I'd pick up a copy of the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson

I love my M&P40 and will never let it go but it is comparing apples to oranges.
