Default Can't remove magazine base plate 39/439 magazine

This baseplate has a dimple in it so it won't slide one way, and it looks like the crimps on the other end, the baseplate retainer groves are turned down, so it can't slide the other way. With the little button pressed in, it only slides about 1/8" either way. The crimped corners don't look as if it was dropped. The blueing is perfect.

My other mag is a stainless or nickel body with a blued baseplate, and it's rear square corners aren't peened over. Same baseplate with the dimple at the end.

So, somehow straighten out those peened over corners, and make sure the groove is opened up enough so the baseplate will slide out? I am swapping in the late model followers to make these 9 rounders like the 904/906 magazines.

The baseplate is supposed to remove going forward. It's not unknown for dropped magazine floorplates to dent from being dropped and be hard to remove.

Depress the lock pin in the middle of the floorplate and move the floorplate forward. When it stops moving, light taps with a tack hammer on the corners will move it forward. You can do some refitting after you get the guts out of the magazine.

Check the parts diagrams. Some of the magazines required a spring change too in order to go up one round.

That's exactly correct. Use a heavy knife or a small sharp screwdriver to open up the slot. Then remove the baseplate, I have used a piece of wood (to prevent damage) and a small hammer. Then once the baseplate is out correct the slot so the baseplate will slide in and out normally.

I am doing the follower swap on my 5906 and 6906 mags as well, and will be going with the Wolff extra power springs. These are in my 439. The double stack mags are in better shape.

Ive had some I have had to use a little penetrating oil . and the small screwdriver trick. If they have never been off, they rust in the groves.
