Default 10mm Tactical

Seeing how S&W doesn't produce the M&P 10 and stopped producing the 10xx series...How about a handsome S&W 10mm Tactical, stainless steel, double stack, with the rail as part of the frame, and with a precision trigger and sights that's worthy of fine shooting.

I am in no way in a position to know or think or influence S&W with the M&Ps. But here is what I observe.

The M&P line is a very serious and successful attempt to take back the LE / MIL / Civilian market from Glock. And they are doing it. Of this there is no doubt.

All of the positives of a Glock striker-like system. But with better, or at least, more "American" ergonomics, adjustable grip sizes, and bureaucratically-correct options like thumb-safeties and magazine disconnects.

They have made full and mid-sized 45s. 357SIGs which to me is LE Driven. They have done compact 9/40/45s. Threaded barrel versions. Single-stack BUGS (Shield). And recently they have been doing the longer USPSA type pistols.

If you step back and look at the above foot-print of models, look at their obvious competition's foot-print, and you factor in a company that institutionally has much experience with the 10mm round (Revolver AND Pistol).

I think it's a logical next step that at some point before this decade is out, Smith will come out with a USPSA length M&P in 10mm. It will be geared toward the sportsman and the very rural LE market. They won't do a bug or a compact in 10, which don't sell for squat at Glock. But I am willing to bet a wad of cash they will come out with a M&P Pro 10 at some-point.

And if they do that, they probably will come out with a 10mm 1911 just for giggles too.

IMO anyway.

Regards,
Greyson

Greyson, I understand the business is geared toward Gvot. Contracts, LEO contracts and some speciality things...but these end users are the ones who are the driving force to the civilian sales. S&W use to cater a little more to the civilian market with some diversity.

It would be nice to see that spirit again, but with our current government pushing so hard against privately owned guns, by passing the rights of the people and doing the end around Small Arms Treaty via of the UN, its no wonder why any business can remain viable in this environment.

But I will say that I am active on several forums and the numbers of people wanting the next 10mm pistols and or revolvers is growing. They are the driving force for the Glock 10mm market, however they are longing for the next and greatest 10mm model to come along.

S&W could capture its share of this market with the M&P 10mm, bring back the 610 without the internal lock and even some speciality 10mm guns such as a semiauto with mulitple conversion barrels for 40S&W, 357Sig and 9x25Dillon enhanced packages.

In closing, given the current state of affairs of our country, people being put out of work in favor of giving to those who don't work for a living, I don't see S&W venturing out of their nitch market anytime soon!

Of the 3rd generation 10mm lineup these were not made...
1016... 3.5" compact barrel like the 1006/1066 TDA
1036... 3.5" compact barrel like the 1026/1076 Frame Decocker
1056... 3.5" compact barrel like the 1046/1068 DAO
1096...special order

1000... = Scandium frame

These might be something to consider as 10mm Tactical pistols!

Default S&W 610

They should bring back the 610 in a 5" and 6" or 6 1/2". That is a fine pistol and they would sell a ton. Used ones are going for $1200-$1400 on GB (in good condition). I had a new in box 6 1/2" 610 and sold it for $1495 last Dec. Made me sick but I needed a house payment.

Whew.... 10mm recoil in a (paper weight) Scandium frame?

That, one way or another, would surely make a lasting impression with me.

While I like steel more then polymer any day I think the M&P10 would be a more sensible option.
I'm pretty fond of the Glock 20 and would love to have the comfortable ergonomics of the M&P's with the bang of a 10mm.
I think the beavertail of the S&W would balance better then the rigid shape of the Glock handle as well.
Keep that recoil coming back instead of up.

I'm in favor of anything S&W wants to do in 10mm:

1911 - stainless and/or scandium
610/310 - stainless and/or scandium with 4 or 5 inch barrel
M&P - to give the G20 a run

I'd really like a scandium 5 shot L frame with a 3.5-4 inch barrel and XS sights.....

An M&P or perhaps better yet, a 1911sc E series, in 10mm?

My credit card would have friction burns it would come out so fast.

The S&W 1911 in 10mm would have to have a ramped barrel and some great chamber support to handle the full ballistic potential of the cartridge. The Delta Elite lack chamber support...The 10xx series were done right so if S&W does produce a beautify 10mm I would want it to be able to handle the full potential loads.
